I was thinking of upgrading my ECM in my MSM and am wondering if it is an allowable upgrade for SP? I read the rules,but did not see any reference to engine management for the class.Thanks.

The rule of thumb of the rule book is: SS and ST, if it is not listed as allowed, it can not be modified. SP and P, if it is not listed as not allowed, it can be modified.
Yes, the ECM can be changed.

how mutch is that system? and can it be adapted to any motor? mega squirt is about 400 for the computer but u have to make your own harness and then u can calibrate it for any oem sensors of your choice and run it on any motor from 2 to 12 cylinders

Why not go with Autronics? They are pretty popluar with the rally guys and it's around the same price range as Hydra. Also, the guys at DSG know that system pretty well too and can tune it.

The Hydra is popular with the Subie and Miata owners. It is a very user friendly system and has its own wide band O2 sensor and has an autotune feature that fine tunes as you drive using the wideband.(mostly for cruising speeds/and emissions requirements) I have enjoyed setting it up on the turbo Miata (with much help from Flyin-Miata) and it works flawlessly. It is expensive at $1,850 (with the wide band option),but I like the fact that I can adjust any engine operating parameter with my laptop live,and can datalog on track with it. It also will run an EBC and water/meth injection system,if needed.I really prefer datalogging on track to tune the car vs. a dyno. I seem to get more accurate real world tunes doing it in this manner. Works for me!

with the mega squirt is inexpensive but u have to keep up with the tune but thats wat i have been learning to tune and it has a wide band o2 i have seen it in a turboed chevy ls1 5.3 that is pushing 700+ hp and in a 99 mustang with a turboed chevy 6.0 ls1 making around 450 so it might not be as smart as other systems but its cheep and it dose work so it all depends on wat u prefer all ways fine tuning it or just drive the dam thing haha

haha me to its so much easier to just play with accelerator cams,jets,accelerator pump,float level,power valves,and air bleeds but a computer can get very complex i love carbs tho easier to tune part throttle then on a efi system

If you know the theory and application to good fuel tuning,you can tune EFI.Just need to learn the language. Once you do,you will laugh at carburetors.

as soon as u learn the lingo and wat every thing dose u can get just as mutch power out of a proprely tuned carb and efi it just depends on wat u are more comfortable tuning that will dictate wat u use and wat brand u use

Nice thing about EFI is its consistency. Carbs on the other hand can be fussy when cold...fussy when left tooo long...fussy about fuel quality..just plain ole fussy!
