Track dB Limits

NHMS: 99 dB @ 50ft
Mont Tremblant: 92 dB
Mosport: No limit
Summit Point: 103dB @ 50ft
Lime Rock Park: 89dB @ 50ft
Calabogie: 92dB @ 50 ft
Watkins Glen: No limit

The limits above are either from the COM contract with the track or from a call speaking to a track representative.

I believe the sound limit at Lime Rock is 89db, but I have heard (no pun intended) 85db.

From LRP's website:

Sound Restrictions

The allowable decibel limit this season will be the same as they have been since 1959. However, increasingly creative attempts to circumvent the sound restrictions will require us to be slightly more vigilant in our enforcement. Accordingly, we have now adopted a Two-Strikes and You're Out Policy, which is included in the contract as follows: "Any vehicle found to be violating the dB limits will not be allowed to operate on LRA grounds. Any vehicle that is determined by LRP Staff to be exceeding the above referenced decibel limits will be immediately black flagged and removed from the track. A vehicle, which has been black-flagged, may return to the track, provided that sufficient modifications have been made to allow the vehicle to meet the stated sound restriction. Any vehicle which receives two (2) black flags as the result of sound violations in a single day, will not be allowed on the track for the remainder of the Event. Again, the sound limit has not changed. Please be sure to inform all participants to help ensure everyone is able to enjoy their time at the track. If you have any further questions on the sound restrictions, please contact the Track Office directly.

Funny how they go on a rant about the sound limit, but do not state exactly what it is! Not very helpful.

Same here, I've heard limits ranging from as low as 85 to 90 dB

BTW I was at NHMS during the Vintage Festival and the db level was M-U-C-H higher. I presume there are "quota allowance" for NASCAR, SCCA, etc and for other clubs these are the "ratings".

I am NOT surprised by the no levels at Mosport. Being such a flat land the sound must carry all the way to Montreal so they don't care...

I am surprised by open levels at the Glen ... must be because organic farm cows over there produce better milk at higher db???

Any change to the NHMS sound limit for 2009? Thought I heard something about this at the last event driver's meeting.

how are the db limits measured at idle or ar at a certin rpm ?

Track noise readings are done as you pass by the meter on track. Usually,this means you will be wide open throttle at greater than 4k rpms.

also, most use the SCCA method where the meter must be 50 feet away.

I was just told their limit is over 100 dB, they don't really enforce it, as long as you have some sort of muffled car (e.g. like a spec miata straight pipe) you will be okay.
