Sponsorship Possibilities?
Sponsorship Possibilities?
by mug23 on Mon Aug 24, 2009 9:13 am
Anyways I was wondering, does COM have any vendor sponsors like HMS Motorsports, etc... to our club? I personally like to see some contingency prize and or money for the winners of each classes. This will motivate people and possible attract others wanting to join the club and compete for something.
I'm sure this has been thought out previously by someone, but do we actually have anything like a reward system beside improving driving skills or just trophies?

Re: Sponsorship Possibilities?
if you want to be paid for racing then get a sponcer and or go pro racing . leave the grass roots racing as is ! cheap and fun is what it is and all it should be . when you start paying out cash and prizes what kind of headache would that give a nonprofit club ? i don't think it would bring in new members . what is needed is a person to take the bull by the horns and go out and promote the club by setting up displays at other races ,car shows , putting on cruise nights , geting comscc events dates in mags . does comscc list there event dates in grassroots motorsports mag ???? there is a saying you have to spend money to make money . so my thinking is spend money in real world ways to promote the club and get new members that way ?
Re: Sponsorship Possibilities?
I think David is on the right track, and we have begun to get COM out there by doing 2 shows this year at ZERO cost to the club. Our volunteers spent their own money on gas, paper, pencils, tape, etc, as needed to put on the shows and the 2 Car and Coffees that some members attended. I agree fully that Grass Roots Mag should list our events. So, let's get some of the other members to pitch in here and come up with some ideas. In fact, I think we should schedule our banquet around the World of Wheels show next January and start off the year with a big effort at that show.

Re: Sponsorship Possibilities?
I'm not say that I want to make money perhaps it would be a big icing on the cake but to get some types of incentives either through sponsors gift certificates towards an product they sell for the winners and that draws people in. It doesn't have to be much.
I used to play in many billiard tournaments around Mass and the tri-state area. I pay my entry fees and usually first, second and third place gets cash prizes and most of the tournament are not pro level but rather grassroot level just like we are. A lot of people are motived to join the club/tournaments and wants to improve so they can get some incentives and proof that they have achieve something they love to do.
I know this club is a non-profit org. but that does not mean that we only do it for the fun of it because we love to drive our cars fast. People needs some types of incentive to draw them in. It's human nature. Like your said, it takes money to make money.
Also, a lot of people don't get involve with this type of sport is because it's very expensive, especially for the younger crows. I think that in order to promote the club, we need to somehow provide a product that can give back to the people what they give in such as some incentive like I mention above that can offset the extra money people spend on their car to get it ready to run the events.
I hope I'm making some sense of this...

Re: Sponsorship Possibilities?
If you are looking for prize money to help support your track time, you are in trouble! Even if you won every time,it wouldn't even cover fuel costs.(unless you drove a two cylinder snowmobile powered car... )
The incentive to run should come from the heart.
If anyone is doing this to chase a golden carrot,I agree with David; get sponsors and make it a profession.
The run for money takes the fun factor right out of most activities.
It also changes the type of people you will see participating.
Club racing should be about what we do,not how we finish.

Re: Sponsorship Possibilities?
out of the 6 other clubs i run with comscc by far has the best people in it . willing to help others out, friendly and so on .i would hate to see that change ! we are heading down the right road promoting but we need to do more of it . so many people think they don't have a car to take to the track when most people do have a car that can be tracked . people have told me that they would go do track days but there car is to old ,to new , to many miles , to slow and on an on . becouse of this i'm working on 2 loaner cars but people have to change that mind set . the first time i went to the track i used my 1973 beetle with 100k miles on it .

Re: Sponsorship Possibilities?
i have offered my time to do that job . as far as i can see no one is ? we should also see about our event listings in other clubs new letters like the bmw club, porsche club, ferrari club , lombo club and on and on . we should also be expanding our demographics in other parts of new england . there was an other posting in comscc forums about NJMS and if we were running there . we all know that most of our away races were not on the program this year and why . if we get more members from out side of northern new england we could get more away races . NJMS is a nice track and only about 4 an a half hours from me . beaverun is another good track that is not that far for me eather . one way to get new members is to put on races at other away tracks and promote the hell out of the club in that location .
Re: Sponsorship Possibilities?
I think when you offer money you open up for trouble. I have ran the last 9 years at a track and believe me people will spend all kinds of money cheating for a few bucks. I am glad to be involved with a club where the people are friendly
and always willing to help each other out. What about running Lime Rock park next year? We really enjoyed Mt Tremblant
and Watkins Glenn. What about doing a 50/50 raffle at the events to raise money for the club.

Re: Sponsorship Possibilities?
How about anyone who wins class has to pay the club $25 as part of their "trophy". There's a switch!
