New Jersey Motorsports Park
New Jersey Motorsports Park
I recently had the opportunity to drive the Thunderbolt and Lightning courses at New Jersey Motorsports Park. I'm new to COM and don't really know if the members would be willing to commute that far, but the tracks are lots of fun.
Would COM consider holding an event there?
Here's the park info: http://www.njmp.com/

Welcome to COM!
We were discussing next years schedule at the board meeting last night. NJMP was one of the tracks mentioned, so yes we will consider going there. There is a lot of work that goes into planning the schedule, negotiating with the tracks, balancing dates etc., that is why we start now.

I really hope NJMP will be on next year schedule. If it is, I'm 100% going...

Re: New Jersey Motorsports Park
I have raced Thunderbolt and Lightning with SCCA and enjoyed them. I wouldn't be optimistic as both tracks are very expensive and the distance is considerable enough to inhibit entries. We decided this past Wednesday at the COM meeting that this next year will continue to be poor economically so we must be conservative to protect our finances. On the other hand, the area lodging in not expensive. One cool thing I saw: a friend rented a motel/efficiency room for two on the front straight for less that $100/nite with a garage under!

Absolutely. The accomodations in the area are rediculously inexpensive. I stayed at a Days Inn just 10 minutes from the park for $49.00/night, and the place was great! Denny's for coffee and breakfast was attached.
The pit-lane "villas" were convenient too.
The tracks absolutely stole the show. Nice flow and real fast. I had the opportunity to passenger with a Porsche 911 driver, and with my added weight, he was at 150MPH on the Lightning front straight. Several Corvettes were even faster, and Thunderbolt had a faster straight yet again.
I'm happy to hear that it is being considered even if its not in the cards. Maybe the year after next. Looking forward to all of the great events that you're pulling together! Keep up the great work!
See you in New Hampshire!

Re: New Jersey Motorsports Park
At the COM Booth at the BUsch Car show last Saturday a Porsche club member convinced me that maybe we should look again at Monticello. He said they demanded and got the 4 mile course that was not rinky dink like the short course. And maybe their outrageous rates are negotiable.

That is good news! Monticellos long track looks very challenging and fun! Not far away, either.

Those long stretches aren't good for the TR, but I LIKE that tight right in the middle!
