Track & Competition Tires

Post by NS1 » Fri Aug 14, 2009 9:07 am

Hi All:

Does anyone have rcommendations on which dealers might offer the best price buying track tires?

Also, brand preferences for a dry track day?

If its relevent, I'm buying for a 2008 Subaru STi: 245/40ZR18

Thanks,
Sean Daniels (NS1)

I almost always buy from TireRack.com or DiscountTire.com and have them drop shipped to my installer.

What are you looking for in a tire? Do you want a fast tire, or one that lasts?

If you want a fast tire go for a Kuhmo V710 or Hoosier R
If you want a tire that lasts go for a Toyo RA-01 or Nitto NT-01

Good source for Toyo and Hankook tires: TreadZone.com (formerly TheTireShoppe.com

Good source for Hoosiers and others: Phil's Tire Service

I use Tire Rack for street cars, company cars, tow vehicles, and the like, but prefer to get my race tires from fellow racers, when possible.

Joe Specht at TreadZone and Phil at Phil's tire service fit the description and provide excellent service. :)

I guess tires that'd last a full season would be fine. Perhaps 6 or 8 events?

By the looks of it, a set appears to be about $1K. Wasn't sure if any dealers were known for better pricing.

I appreciate all of your feedback. I'll check out these resources.

Thanks!

I recently got a better price on a Hoosier R6 directly from Hoosier Tires East than from Tire Rack. I don't know if that is I pay then a fortune for slicks for the FE. Brian (860) 646-9646
