HELP - Our 1993 Miata Limited was hit hard in the front

Post by peterfontana » Sat Jul 18, 2009 11:06 am

Our once pristine 1993 Miata Limited, black with tan interior/top, excellently maintained, was totaled in a front end collision (see link below for pictures). This car was our family baby. My daughters brought it to the track about once a year. 134,000 miles. I recently replaced the clutch and installed a Racing Beat exhaust (without intermediate resonator). It has a Hard Dog 4 point roll bar (single diagonal) and G-Force 5 point harnesses. Enkei FP-1 forged rims (15x7) for track with Toyo Proxes RA1 205/50-Z15, all with complete tread.

It was hit hard in the front, enough to break the rear differential mount (through the torque beam). I can’t see if the crank pulley is damaged; but the impact seems very high, so I assume the core engine is fine. Everything was in excellent condition before the crash except the seats had splits in the leather.

Please suggest how we can get the most out of what’s left of our car. Should we sell as is or part it out? At this point we would prefer everything to go together.

See http://rides.webshots.com/album/573599676cUJXvS for pictures.

(The driver is fine - a testament to Mazda engineering).

Thanks for any suggestions,
-Peter

Hey Peter, sorry to hear about the miata, if i was you i'd look to part it out at this point, Bondo doesn't look to appear to be a quick fix for this problem unfortunately. Strip it , Gut it w.e and sell the parts. just my opinion. Best of luck!

I agree. You'll make more $$ if you can part it youself. When mine was wrecked I sold it to a friend for salvage value plus the cost of the roll bar. He repaired it, the damage was not nearly as significant as yours.

Showed my friend your info, he is interested in the RFP-1s and tires if you decide to sell.

Hi Peter,

Sorry to hear about your incident, but glad to read that all are OK.

I agree with the above. From the pictures and description, I would say that the car has sustained too much damage to be useful for anything but parts. As such, you will be better off selling those parts individually than selling the entire lot as one. This is true only if you have the time, space, and tools to dismantle and sell the parts, and dispose of the rest.

Thank you to everyone for your input. I have moved this thread to the Classifieds area, where I have posted an ad for the whole car - mostly to avoid the effort of parting it out and then trying to dispose of what's left.
