I have a fear of heights. When in tall buildings like the Pru tower, I had what I thought were serious ass pucker moments. I was wrong. They were not serious. I'm pretty sure had I eaten a full breakfast on Monday, that I would have crapped it out completely by the middle of my second lap in the rain at WGI.
Obviously those feelings subsided.....until my time trial laps.
Only holy shiit moment I had was Tues, turn 9,coming around the apex only to see the Viper sideways on the line, nose left, with cars behind me bailing out to the left...so I bailed to the right...straight toward the Armco... ...juuust enough room to get by. SO glad it was not wet.
Troy, don't tell me you are missing being surrounded by all that iron..
It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. "Lap times matter"
I think I have more iron around me now than with the Mustang. I'm still getting my bearings with this go kart thing I bought, but I think I made some significant improvements with my driving just the two days at WGI and the one at NHMS. I have more laps at Tremblant than anywhere else, so I hope to continue improving at a track I'm very familiar with.
WG was my first time on track with my Miata and I had to work up to trusting how fast you can actually go around corners with it.Amazingly agile car.Monday did not really help much other than learning the track layout, and Tues was too short to get a solid feel for the character of the car as well. Nothing like seat time on track!! I did miss my Focus...

Was that you in the red Miata in front of me that turned into the NASCAR part of the course after the bus stop? I have to admit I was laughing my ass off when it happened!

Raj
You have to admit he did a fine job of squeezing between those cones. He must have thought they were part of a test, or something!
My pucker moment came on the first time trial lap. I was absolutley amazed that I had to shift to 6th, then got hung up trying to downshift to 4th and ended up in NO GEAR through the bus stop!
Seems the clutch now hangs and doesn't totally release when when it should, making gear selection difficult. I will bleed the system to see if it is a hydraulic problem, or if I cooked something expensive!
Yep,that was me. Sam told me you were behind me,laughing like mad. I saw the line of cones and was looking for a pointer cone, but there was none,so I continued on the same radius as turn 5.Right turn,Clyde... I found myself on a nice straightaway with no cars...and there were flagmen in the stands...so I was waiting for the boot..instead I was dumped back on track just before turn 10. I was a little confusd..till I crossed the start/finish line and realized what I had done.It was my fastest lap of the weekend, maybe the fastest I will ever turn at the Glen. How many can say their first lap of WG was their quickest!

Will busted me for crossing the blend line on my TT out lap........................twice.
Sorry about that.... I thought the blend line was only in effect during the practice sessions and open track. I just wanted a good run at the esses fresh in mind for the next lap around.
Well, sliding sideways in the F2000 at well into 3 digital speed at NHMS (using NASCAR oval 1-2) during SCCA race as i was closely vying for a race win was NOT it (an OH SH@T moment it was tho).
Biggest pucker moment was during a test day at WGI after the back straight as i was taking that fun high G-force right down into the boot. Was taking A LOT of speed as she was at maximum grip. Was getting closer and closer to the end of track on the left, which is normal yet i could tell this time there was a bit too much speed and no way to 'correct' to get her to go more to the right. Had to use ALL the nice white 'extra' track bit on the left and noticed that white section was going to end yet the car was not quite done with that turn(!). Just took too much speed and not quite enough tire grip. Thank G-d for whomever added that tiny bit of extra black tarmac after the white track out section. If it was not there, it woulda been REALLY ugly as the highly loaded left tires (2+G) would have been on grass. Those who have been to WGI know how close that large oh-so-fun armco wall there could be and how WGI's 'blender time' gets many a car.
Oh, and i took that super fun long right turn a bit slower from then on. Thank goodness for test days!
The turn's super small little extra tarmac on the left (can't quite see it in my oldish video, maybe it was added?) to the section on the left if you pause at 0.58 in this video http://www.enjoythetrack.com/blogs/wgi0 ... 072608.wmv

Problem is, Troy, as you know now, it becomes a bad habit. Too easy to forget and do it during open track, so always obey the blend line at tracks. You know how important it is at Mont-Tremblant.

I think the only thing that could make this story better is in-car footage!
