A Miata problem..I'm too tall!

Post by breakaway500 » Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:35 pm

With a Saferacer seat bolted directly to the floor, with NO padding, and a double Maxx Boss frog roll bar (tallest made) I still can't pass the damn broomstick test.
My thoughts: Can I add a removable 2" roll bar quality tube to the top of the rollbar setup that is in the car, that is properly bolted on when needed, and removed to put the top up? I don't know if that is allowable.

If I can't raise the bridge... Cutting the floor under the seat. Two full inches. Problem is...on a Miata, there is a floor brace under there that will have to be relocated to maintain the integrity of the tunnel.Lots of work...and it pretty much destroys the resale value of the car.

Any other options? Maybe remove 2" of my back? Trade it in on a Solstice before I ruin it?

We had the same trouble with the TR6.

We had a machine shop make us 4" block risers - I'll send you photos - that run into the floor pan and allow the bolts from the bar to thread into the top of the block.

Worked really well, really rigid, passed Tech.

I can't raise the whole bar.It is too..intricately attached in the Miata..and the top will not clear.

I could add a bar on track days across the top hoops, like some designs have. This could be attached properly, double shear, bolted. I would not be able to use the top...but it would save ccutting the floor pan.

I am not sure if I am ready to cut the floor..I will have to look at it some more. Uh oh..I'm rhyming.. :D

If i did replace the Miata,it would be for a GXP Solstice. I don't fit in the S2000's either. :?

Yippe! I got the Saferacer low enough without cutting the floor. If slid foreward enough, the new seat clears the rear factory seat mounting bumps and drops down enough so I will pass the stick test! I may look like I am going to a low rider convention, but I will pass the stick test. Now I can work on all the other stuff...
