Hoosier AS04 question

Post by mr2sc » Mon Mar 30, 2009 4:39 pm

I just bought a spare set of 'almost new' wheels from a friend who isn't/hasn't used them in a couple of years, and they happen to have a set of Hoosier AS04 auto-x tires mounted on them.

They have 2 or 3 runs on them from 3 years ago and have been stored indoors inside Hefty bags ever since.

So, here's the question...can I use these on track? Or will they disintegrate immdiately?

I'm thinking that if they're really deemed unusable, it may just be better to try to sell them instead of ruining them in a single session. :?

Any advice from the sages here would be welcome.

Tom Hansen and I have some experience running AS03's (225/45R15) at NHMS. Tom had those tires on the rear wheels on a FWD VW in October. They were rock hard yet they gripped and were barely scuffed up. I am guessing as long as it's not hot (under 70 track temp) them A compound would work well for at least the TT if not open track.

I'd have them on both the front and the rear (ironically the same 225/45x15 size), only in my application that's where 62% of the static weight is (along with 300whp)...hmm.

I kinda suspect that even the unladen 205/50x15s on my front end, likely does more work than the rear of a FWD car...

thanks for your feedback

The autocross tires can be the best for a light car like yours. Take tire temps.
