In Search of Miata Catalytic Converter

Post by tgordon » Wed Mar 25, 2009 1:43 pm

The original catalytic converter on my '95 Miata has developed some cracks. Does anyone know where I can obtain a cheap OEM replacement? I understand from my mechanic that there are problems with after market units making them difficult to pass CT emissions and I can't stand the thought of parting with $600 for a new one from Mazda. My hope that someone out there has a take-off that could use a new home.

Thanks,

Tom

last one is has cheapest.

I have a Jackson racing on my 90 that has lasted years. Passed inspection when it was registered. You might consider an O2 sensor as well. I got a Denso universal for about $30 for my 90. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalo ... d=cat10016

Don't know if this helps, but I have one off my 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata I won't ever be using again.I saved it from the scrap man last time,as he offered me $75 for it,but I could not let it go to scrap. If interested, let me know.

Your car is OBD1; take a broomstick to the stock one and clean out the honeycomb stuff!
It will purr like a kitten after your do, or at least get you buy for now until you find a cheap replacement.

I have a stock cat for a 1.8 Miata. It was taken off to replace with a hiflow unit. $25 and it's yours.

I'll take it Gordon.

Any chance you could bring it next weekend?

Thanks,

Tom

Hey Tom,

I never made it to NHMS (got sick) and just got to cleaning out the car and found the cat I had packed for you. I forgot all about it. Do you still need one?
