Showroom stock;what tires are allowed?

Post by breakaway500 » Sun Mar 15, 2009 4:27 pm

Reading the rules...I'm not sure exactly sure about this statement; " Tires shall be of "as delivered" construction.DOT approved" Does this mean if it came with radials, you need to use radials? Or is it saying if the car came with Pirelli P6's,that is all you can use? Not quite sure what the statement is saying...or limiting you to.
Could you run a DOT slick? (V710,R6 etc) Or,is there a specific wear number that is the cutoff, like 120?
Thanks!

My understanding of the rules in SS and ST is that unless it says you can change something, you can't. So my answer would be that in SS Class, you can not run R compounds. But you should be able run a tire that has the same characteristics as the stock tire, using your example of P6's . I believe that as long as it had the same treadwear, temp and traction ratings you could change brands. Someone may correct me but to me that seems to be the intent.

The rules say "DOT approved" "R" compound tires like Hoosier R6 and A6 are "DOT Approved" :sunny:
You can run this type of tire in SS & ST as long as it is the proper size for the car on the correct size rim

I like Dans take on the question! "Construction" I take as being a radial, and DOT means limited to DOT stamped rubber. It really does not address the tread wear rating issue. I could slap my replacement drivers seat into a stock ST Focus,(2.3 stick,4 wheel discs) do some cat back exhaust work, good adjustable replacement struts/shocks,Carbotech pads, stainless hoses, good oil cooler....and my radial,DOT V710's and see what she'll do in SSC. Don't even need a rollbar. 8) It would be fun. Got everything but the car.... :D

Dan, I Put a deposit on a truck camper today.Dealer up in Greenfield has some new leftovers. Has an indoor shower..but you can't be taller than 5'10....the too tall curse strikes again... Maybe I'll put in a skylight in the bathroom...

Great Mark :) My fifth wheel has a plastic bubble over the shower stall, it works great and makes it quit bright in the morning and adds about 6 inches to head room.

Mark, my truck camper was built with the bubble in the shower. You could always shower while sitting on the hopper.

Don't laugh, my old class c dodge had a showering seat molded in the bath room. Actually, it was quite useful for sneaking people in to the pits when I raced stock cars. The guys who worked the gate never looked in there.

Good observation - perhaps some clarity might be needed that that these rules are not misinterrupted
