Watkins Glen questions

Post by breakaway500 » Sat Mar 07, 2009 10:25 am

Will there be shower facilities available at the track for those camping? Can you arrive Friday at the track, and stay Sunday night, leaving Monday morning? I did go to the Glen website, but saw no imfo about showers. Thanks.

There are no showers at the track - or were none in the past. Plan on none. We MIGHT get lucky and find they have the media center open, doubtful since we are the first group to run there this year.
My early information is that we will be allowed into the track on Sunday night - 600PM. Again, we are the openning act for WGI 2009, and most liely will NOT be given early entry.
All that said, please watch the Events Forum for my postings.

Thanks Sam. I did not look to see that it was a mon-tues event, but same question applies. I have been looking at slide-in campers, but most light ones don't have showers. I looked at one today;what a beast! The thing had more rooms than my house! It weighed 4800lbs! When I told the guy I wanted something under 2k lbs..he laughed. They make them,I just need to find one closer than Michigan. With a shower.Less than $8k...I'm not asking much...

Last year the media center was opened: I did the classroom session. But it took them a while to get things opened, etc.
Note also they were constructing the new section by the bleachers so hopefully there is something there that will look more decent and we could use as well.

For now I am just hoping that today's weather pushing near 60 will be a great "melter" for the NHMS event  :P

Try Polar rv sales in Salem NH http://www.polarrvsales.com/, and they only sell truck campers. I boiught a used 8 footer (floor length) from them a few years ago, it weights about 1900 lbs and has a shower too. It took 3 visits before I found what I wanted.

Mark, in the past there have been no showers open at WGI. If the track does not let the club in on Sunday night, you can stay over at the registration building which is at the top of the hill past the main gate. Sometimes the electricity is on in the box behind the building.
I hope to be able to do WGI, If I do you can shower in my trailer. I carry enough water for about 7=8 showers plus I have heat too ----remember how cold it was at Mosport, April at Watkins can be a lot colder although a few years ago it was 80 during the day.

Hi Dan.I hope to be self sufficient by WG..but I will keep your offer in mind.Thanks. I am going to look at a few units this coming weekend and hope to score one.I went to an open house at Manns Trailer sales on Sat, but their prices were out of sight on the same units others have for thousands less. The guy said sales were slow.No wonder. Plus,he would not budge on prices, and was firm on the 5% sales tax. Guess I'll do my shopping across the border, like so many others. Offering one weekend a year of sales tax freedom is not "making it" in Ma. I may be able to save enough money to do all the COM events this year. That is,if I stop spending money on the cars.. so many choices..so little money

I like to register for this event and my question is, I don't have enough money to pay the full entry fee until 4/3 or so. What would be the best way to go about this?

WGI has not sold out in recent years and they will always take your money when you are ready to pay.

That is not 100% true - contact us. Specifically, register and contact our registrar or treasurer.

While we may be able to accept late registrations, they can become difficult to manage. We prepare our rungroups, student/instructor assignments, and a host of other event-specific processes based upon our registration count. This is why we close registration a week or two before the event. It takes a lot of time to prepare for the event and to streamline the process, we handle registrations all at once. Even a handful of last-minute registrations can cause quite a headache.

So, yes, we may accept them late, but PLEASE DO NOT RELY on it. If you have a special circumstance as noted above, let us know early so we can work out the best solution. We are a non-profit club and all of our help is voluntary. Guys like our registrar, treasurer, chief of ops, and several others invest a lot of time into each and everyone of our events, so we try to make things as easy as possible for them. :)

Mug23 - hope you can make it! The Glen is awesome and quite a different experience than NHMS!

Will, Thought it might be a good place to post this....but....as you know I have some moves that still need to be made, and will be registering a little later than normal for the NHMS TT day and for WGI.....but I firmly plan on doing it.
