Suggest track brake pads - 1992 Porsche 911
Hi,
I've got a 1992 Porcshe 911 C2 (964) that I run in SS/GT. I've run Hawk HP+ pads and want something with more bite. Someone suggested Pagid Yellows. What do you suggest?
The car takes HB170 form factor pads front and back, makes about 250hp and weight 3100 lbs.
Thanks for your input,

I would suggest the Hawk HT-10 over the Pagid Yellow. I've found Pagids to be very expensive and wear quickly. I bet the HT-10 will be 1/2 the price and last twice as long. On paper the Pagids may be a better performer, but for what we do the HT-10 is hard to beat.

I ran Pagid orange last year. Like Mick said they wear quickly, but they are easy on the rotors.
I bought a set of Performance Friction 01s. I did some research and alot of the BMW guys run them. Hopefully they last longer than the Pagids.

I don't think the Pagid orange composition works too well. They didn't seem to slow Greg down at all last year.

My 3300 lb, 270 hp Speed 3 loves Carbotech XP10's. Break them in correctly and they run long and brake hard!

I hope the Performance Frictions slow me down even less.

Re: Suggest track brake pads - 1992 Porsche 911
my porsche 944 works best with ferodo ds3000 pads and cooling ducts . at NHMS my rotor temps are running at 875 degrees on the hottest day i was there . if your not looking for a full race pad . then if it was me i would go with the 2500 pads . i did 5 track weekends last year with the porsche and 2 weeks ends at NHMS .if you have ever run at NHMS then you know how hard it is on brakes . my pads and rotors are still looking new . i don't think its all that important what pads peaple run . i think its important on running a drake temp that the pads were ment to run at .

Another vote for Carbotech XP10's. Easy on rotors, but with a LOT of initial bite, however easy to modulate.I did 8 events with the Carbotechs and they feel the same as they did on the first event, with lots of material still left. This is on my 2500lb, 225hp car. Liked them so much,I had Carbotech make me a set of XP8's and XP10's for the Atom, and am planning on buying some 10's and 12's for the Miata.

Good choice Peter. Break them in properly per instructions from Carbotech that comes with the pads. They like a hard break in!

I broke mine in on the street. First few stabs of the pedal from 50mph left me thinking these aren't any better than what I took off. About the 6th time I stepped on the brake, I said...holy crap! I'm gonna need more horsepower!

Funny how people's experience varies. I tried Carbotechs and they didn't work well for me, but a lot of people swear by them.

Re: Suggest track brake pads - 1992 Porsche 911
Did you start them on new rotors,Mick? Carbotech seems to be pretty adamant about their pads being used on a set of dedicated rotors. Don't know if it really makes a difference or not...just going by their reccomendations.

I don't remember, but most likely not. That could be it.

There is a discussion on rennlist right now discussing pf vs. pagids
Seems like most favor pf
We always ran the 97 compound on the 318 with good results and I have a set ready if the 930 ever hits the road/track
