Event Vehicle Insurance

I was following a thread from last year about vehicle coverage, and it seemed not to conclude with any clear solutions other than call the insurance agent.

One of my friends out at Watkins sent me this link: http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/Default.aspx?cID=33

to a company that offers day-by-day coverage at declared value. The requirements seem to fit within the COM structure.

Thoughts about adding this option to club offerrings, or have I overlooked something? Anyone have prior experience?

Interesting. If I recall correctly, the issue is more one the "HPDE" vs. COM format. For sure the laps you will be doing under time trial conditions will NOT be covered. As for the other times namely student sessions, etc. it's been a toss depending which insurance company you have coverage with.
Also, I wanted to point out what one member once said: careful with what you "print" here on this forum when it comes to your own experience on track and what you have done to get "coverage".
We do have a few examples, one in particular about a blue fast AWD at Mont Tremblant ...

I would be willing to bet that this HPDE coverage would not apply to any incidents taking place during the time trial portion of our events.

The event I’d like to purchase coverage for isn’t listed. How do I purchase coverage for this event?
This insurance product is intended for structured High-Performance Driver’s Education events. If the event you are attending provides instructors, classroom sessions for participants, and approved passing zones, please ask the event organizer to contact us. If they meet our required guidelines, we will make coverage available for the event.

i did a quick quote on 65k and came up with 385 for the entire event wether its 1 or 3 days. not to bad at all

Time Trials are considered beyond the scope of HPDE and not covered.

In the state of Massachusetts, no laps on any racetrack will be covered period. I went way up the ladder on this one the language is clear, the companies will not budge. This is why my Z28 still has blue stripes on it and lives under a cover.

This insurance coverage is not affiliated w/ SCDA or any other club, it s being offered to participants of any noncompetitive track event.

Given how COM events are currently structured (i.e., you register and pay for the Time Trial as part of the full event), coverage may not be available.

BMWCCA is offering coverage for their HPDE events with some sort of discount to club members: http://www.bmwcca.org Although many BMWCCA HPDE events include a BMWCCA club race, registration for each is separate so HPDE participants can get coverage while BMW club racers cannot.

If the car you take to events is a daily driver be very cautious when talking to your insurance company. I have a strictly track car that is currently registered and tried to switch to a new insurance agent who knew what I used the car for and they would not even write me a bare bones policy so I could drive on the street occasionally and be legal. Needless to say I'm very careful about not saying anything to current provider, I do get a low mileage discount . Hope they aren't cruising this site, we may need to go undeground soon if Big Brother has his way.

If this is true, I believe COM could institute seperate registrations for the school and tt days, to cover the people who desire this type of insurance. This might make it more difficult to handle the second day discount.
