Suggestions for COM History page

Post by xstar » Thu Jan 19, 2006 2:36 pm

Hi everyone,

I do not know if everyone is familiar with the COM History page from the COM website.

http://www.comscc.com/backgrnd.htm

It is year 2006 and and we have not had an update on that page since 2001. I am soliciting suggestions for some summary text for each year since 2001.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thank you all!

I think '04 was when we returned to Tremblant. Track records went tumbling, since the last records were established in the rain ;)

We also visited the autox course at Summit Point for the first time.

On a personal note, with the release of the WRX, a gaggle of Subarus started running with COM in 2002. By '04, many of them had either disappeared, or grown up and bought Miatas or STi's :-)

Perhaps an update of membership total and event fees as well?

Is there a way to look up and post how long members have been continuous members. My Uncle Ed Givler, I believe, has been a continuous member since the early 60s. SCCA does an anniversary list that is cool to check out how long the geezers have been racing.

I am not aware of a way. Maybe Paul, the membership chair, would know.

Wow youre uncle's Ed Givler...I had no Idea...fabulous guy, had him as my signoff instructor last year if my bedraggled memory serves me correctly.

COM History

Post by Don P » Fri Jan 20, 2006 10:47 am

Greetings & back to the original request.

I can think of two memorables that might be included.

One, sadly, is the passing of our past president, Rob Goldfarb during an SCCA event in PA. Rob added so much to the club before and during his presidency.

Second would be the outstanding result in the SCCA 24 hr race at Summit Pt (I think 2002 0r 03) where the #23 Miata owned by Malek, with crew chief K Foote and drivers, Tier, MIskoe & D Foote won first overall - quite an accomplishment given the other cars & drivers there.

Best,

Don

Actually Don, The 23 car did race in a 24hr race in 2001. It was the Longest Night race at Moroso, FL. I don't recall where they finished, but there were a bunch of COM drivers at that race. I wrote an article for the Drift about it. There have been a number of COM members that have done very well in endurance racing over the years.

Team CRS finished 19th overall and 3rd in class at the 2001 Moroso 24 Hour with COM members both driving and crewing. And that included a 2 hour (1H59M according to the press release) engine swap just before dawn (I recall that we were 5th overall before that point).

I forget where we finished at the 12 Hour that year. We have won the class twice '03 and '05.

Chris A.
Proud Crew member of Team CRS and looking forward to this year.

I do remember that motor change!

I dug up a copy of the article that was run in the Drift:
