"The Art of racing in the Rain" A good read!

Post by MiataSteve » Thu Nov 27, 2008 7:17 am

I found this book to be so cool I had to share...

If you are looking for a quick interesting book for the off season, pick up a copy of "The Art of Racing in the Rain", by Garth Stein. I saw a review of this book by Peter Egan in Road and Track and had to get it. Its tells the trials and tribulations of a talented but struggling race car driver and his family as seen though the eyes of his Dog, Enzo. The guy who wrote it has done SCCA, so the racing is spot on. I enjoyed it on many levels.

I read this book a couple of months ago. It took me about 5 chapters to really warm up to it. It's really well balanced, technically perfect and also would probably appeal to non-car people. The author clearly knows cars and is probably a driver the way we are. The book really hit home with me as the hero employs lessons of racing and determination to overcome more important problems in life.

The end is sad, trite, predictable yet perfect.
