Redline Time Attack Results from VIR

Post by chaos4NH » Mon Nov 03, 2008 8:38 pm

Two of our club members, representing Dent Sport Garage, owned by member Alex Grabau, did well in the Redline Time Attack Championships at VIR.
Here are a couple of quotes from the announcement:
Brian Crower Honda S2000 set a new track record for any rear wheel drive car in time attack competition. Sharif Abdelbaset and the Forged Performance Nissan 350Z followed with a 2:05.394 and rounding out the top three was Bill Washburn in his newly re-built Dent Sport Garage Nissan 240SX.
James Elterman ended up winning Modified AWD with clocking a 2:23.930. Behind him, with a 2:30.942 was Ron Adams in the Dent Sport Garage Subaru STI.
Congratulations guys!

I take it Ron remembered the hood pins this time.

Thanks for posting that Sam!

I didn't go down this year. I stayed back at the shop. We were all three going to make the trip but one of our main sponsors for that one event (not our credit cards) came through with only enough for Bill at the last minute. Bill's car wasn't 100% at the time. He had spent hundreds of hours on it and it was close but it will definitely be faster.

Ron remembered his hood pins and drove very well, as he always does. By his account it was a conservative weekend since his car now had more than double the power it did the last time he got in it.

Doing COM helps a lot for sure. It's a lot of seat time and that's what counts the most.

I actually had a great season this year despite breaking two gearboxes. My car is finally reliable in the areas I was working on. The power is intense now, probably too intense for the drivetrain so that will be the next area to focus on. I did three hillclimbs and two COM days this year. I drove to VT and back in the EVO for one hillclimb.

The engine is out of my car now and torn down and at the machine shop for evaluation (measurement and magniflux) after three seasons. The gearbox is up in the air. I'm looking for a competition gearset.

Raj- Bill needs a nickname.

Thanks Sam, i appreciate the coverage. We had a blast down there. It felt amazing to get 2nd place in the cars first competitive event since the rebuild.

Keith, this event was before the COM NHIS event, so i had remembered the hood pins.

The car was amazing at VIR, I had done a test & tune session at NHMS the week before and it had gone well. Since VIR, we fixed up the fuel starvation problem - i was going to try to verify that it was gone at NHMS with COM, but then the hood thing happened and that was the end of that.

Pete, i see you saved that photo of bill for future uses :)

Oh, I didn't pay attention to the dates of the events.

Sounds like the car is going to be fun - should be good to see you & Ted go at it. Hope I'm able to join in somewhere along the line!
