October 25 NHMS tail gate party

Post by brucesallen » Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:10 am

Once again there will be a Bring Your Own Everything dinner party after the Saturday event. It will be in the GARAGES instead of the grassy infield because it may get dark. If you want to grill stuff, bring our own grill. We cannot be sure that there will be extra grills available.

Maybe we will also do this on Saturday November 1 at NHMS. Stay tuned.

Might need all those grills to throw some heat. Is it OK to wear long johns under your fire suit?

You can wear anything under your fire suit as long as it's Nomex lined... just don't show it to us

If you're bringing the Atom, the cross wind on top of the hill at 5 can be chilly.
The Atom at Lime Rock had Lexan panels on the sides, I may do that on the Locost.

I do have the side panels in place. Mostly to keep debris from the front tires out of my face and lap.
Even with the fenders on,the front tires toss dirt on you.
All part of the experience.

I am concerned about getting any heat into my tires with 50 degree weather expected.
On a sunny 80 degree day,it's tough to get the tires up to 100 degrees at A/X.
Other Atom owners report favorable luck with the BFG R1 tires on track.I tried them at A/X last week with satisfactory results.here's a link to my brake bias testing...

This will be my first outing on a road track with the Atom,so I will be using a lot of caution till I get a feel for the car.
To say I am excited may be an understatement.

With todays R-compound tire technology, you may be surprised at the grip available in the cold. there have been some pretty quick laps at the November LRP events in the past. Plus cold air=HP.

The Atom is quite light at 1740lbs with me on board. It has been a struggle finding tires that warm up. I have a set of the R1's on the stock wheels and will see how it goes.

I haven't really said to myself I need more power...yet
