NHMS Open Test Question
I am planning on doing the upcoming session (9/25). Track web site lists 8-12 for cars. Do I just show up at 8AM, pay the fee, show my COM license and have at it?

No tech inspection. Not sure if there are any safety regulations, but I have not seen any enforced.
They prefer SCCA licenses, but accept COM licenses too.
As Les said, check in at the gate, and usually pay in the media center.
Passing everywhere, and point-bys are only a courtesy.
The cafeteria will probably not be open.
Garages are first come, first serve, free.
Usually very light turn out.

Track is live at 8:00. Show up by 7:30am at the latest to take full advantage of the time. The new management makes this a much better experience. More corner workers, and they operate on time.
You will need to show a competition credential. Com license works. If you are signed off for a licence but do not have it in hand, I suggest that Carl, or your instructor write a letter and bring it to the track with your logbook.
There have been some guys showing up with bmw club membership cards (means you paid, nothing else), they were let on the track then black flagged for bad behavior. So they are serious about a license.

How things have changed. In the old days you just showed up and gave Ted some money.
No corner workers, just an Ambulance.
Used to love the smell of Castrol in the air, it meant you got a chance to try and hunt down a Yamaha TZ750...

One of the reasons I feel safe on track is the knowledge that every driver out there is either with an instructor or has been through some sort of formal training and testing to allow them to run solo.
If track days only required you to pay a fee and have at it,I would just as soon drive on public roads.

It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. "Lap times matter"
