going in for surgery
Thanks, Sam! But at the risk of sounding ungracious, I gotta say that Mosport record is probably about 3-4 seconds slower than it coulda/shoulda/woulda been if I'd had new rear tires. Alison Hine and I were sharing the car, and on the TT day rear grip got progressively worse, to the point that the car was well-nigh undriveable. Alison will testify, it was SCARY toward the end of the day and for the TT. The rear tires were destroyed, I drove home on cords! Rear tires are apparently only good for about 4 driver-days on the S (I had driven two days at WGI on them before Mosport). I usually get more like 6-8 with the 240Z.chaos4NH wrote:I would like to remiind everyone that Dan set the SSA class record at our visit to Mosport last year.
Sam
The early S2000's are hard on rear tires due to a surprisingly hokey stock suspension setup. Too much rear roll stiffness, amateurishly compensated for by a ridiculous amount of rear toe-in with bump. In cornering you get an initial oversteer lurch, after which the outside rear toe-in sorta "catches" you. Excessive roll reaction at the rear (and/or too little at the front) combined with excessive rear toe-in under cornering => short rear tire life. Not to mention slower than optimal, with the fronts underworked/rears overworked.
Sorry to be giving "excuses" for what amounted to a record SSA time, but it was actually pretty slow, REALLY! It should be noted that for 2007 the S2000 was "demoted", so went from being an SSGT class underdog to an SSA class overdog.
Anyway, I'm a lot more pleased with Watkins Glen, Mt. Tremblant, and Lime Rock results last year

Thanks! If any of you watch "Family Guy", I sound kinda like the geeky red-haired braces-wearing kid w/ crush on Meg, Neil Goldman. i.e., S's are a little lispy and saliva-laden. Should improve with time, doc says 4-6 weeks before enough healing takes place to determine whether speech therapy might be a consideration. I gotta say that at this time I'm not terribly worried about it!alisonnic wrote:I'm delighted, Dan! Congratulations! I, too, wish you a speedy recovery and full recovery of your speech.

The Z has been dormant in the garage for two years now (a crime!). Last year when I bought the S, I immediately put a roll bar in it because my street car *MUST* also be a backup track car. Then I took it to WGI and had a good time, so did the rest of my '07 season with it.ctkag wrote:Go to SPC - Mark & Mick need some more competition!
Is the 'Z' retired? Or undergoing restoration?
Hope to see you on track soon.
Z only needs about 2-4 hours of attention to be ready to go. Tentative plan is to bring it to NHMS in October.
As for the S, if somebody would loan me about $6k I'd like to turbo it and run in SPB
