Dealers are having a hard time finding nice low mileage in demand cars at auction nowadays.If they have a buyer on the other end, and can make some money on the exchange,they do the deal. I've done it myself.
If you had bought a Chevy Tahoe you would still be looking for a buyer.
So...what are you going to do with all that loot? Buy some goodies for the Miata? Go to Mosport? Waste it on bills?

Not a ton of left over money, about $4K. So, now I am saving $330/month in car payment, plus the insurance. After looking up the loan info on the wife's car, no point to pay it off early, the rate is low anyway.
We are trying to position ourselves to complete work on our townhouse and get it up for sale / upgrade to a house within the next year or year and a half, when I think the market will start to pick back up slightly. We'll see though, the utility bills on the townhouse are so cheap; it might make sense for me to find a local place to rent for garage space instead of a buying a house.

The Ford is too old (it will be rotted)
The Chevy too.
Rust never sleeps. Well,maybe in space
Brake lines,fuel lines,oil pans,gas tanks,exhausts,etc,etc... a $3k truck ends up costing you $6k by the time you're done,and it will still be worth only $3K.
I would look for a 2000 up Ford/Dodge/Chevy 1/2 ton supercab (seats 6 in a pinch) and you could put a cap on the back as well for more useable safe space. They are selling in the 4-7k range with 70-90k miles.Look for one that has been well taken care of;Interior is clean,body rust free,maintenance records.Yes,some people do keep records and care for their vehicles.
Small gas v-8 engine will get 16ish around town,20 highway driven under 75mph. Towing will be 10-12ish. with 5k.lb. trailer.
Trying to pull a trailer with anything less than a V8 is...frustrating at best.
(except a Cummins diesel )
I'll keep my eyes open. I go to the auction once a week.
The trucks are out there as many people are bailing out of them because they don't need a truck and now gas prices are killing them.
