Mosport questions

Post by breakaway500 » Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:33 pm

Are there shower facilities and does the track allow overnight camping?

Will the track be allowing entry on sunday and allowing you to leave Wed morning?

I am assuming no garages,correct?

Just looking at details and making decisions.

I have been looking a hotels in the area and some of the reviews I have read are scary enough for me to consider camping.

thanks for the help 8)

beautiful camping. Power in the paddock or go out into the green hills near the showers.

Mosport recently built some very nice restrooms with showers! The old bathroom(s) were still there, but if I recall correctly, the new restrooms (quite nice for a racetrack) had showers, changing area, etc.

I am sure Sam will post official info soon, but this is what I remember from previous years:
Usually arrival the evening before is allowed, as is camping. I'm not 100% sure about pick-up in on Wed morning. Depending on the size of your rig, you will have to cross over the track (the actual racing surface) to enter the paddock. Obviously, the track has to be shut down for this to happen. Small trucks with small open trailers in tow can get through the small access tunnel. Track shuts down for lunch, which provides an opportunity for rigs to enter/exit between 12-1. Immediately following the time trials, we usually shut down for 10-15 minutes before open track (usually HOURS of open track!) to allow early-birds an opportunity to get going early.

No garages.

For hotels, look at HoJo's in Bowmanville. Been staying there for years. Do not expect the 4-seasons, but it relatively clean and affordable (ask for the AAA discount).

Bring gas cans or a credit card for the pumps.

Heads up:
You will be terrified at the entrance of Turn 2.
Feel glorified upon the successful exit of Turn 2.
Perhaps mystified cresting the hill before 4 and looking up at 5.
Eaten alive from 6 to 8 (if you are in a Miata).

You will thank the god of your choice that you had an opportunity to put tire to track at Mosport.

Here is a review I read off of Orbits about the HJ motel in Bowmanville;

"We were totally dissatisfied with our rooms, room service and resturant: we had none . The rooms were dirty and one of ... the "beds" was broken down like the box spring was broken totally on one side, I really wish I would have taken a picture of it ,cigarette burns in bed spread ,holes in the walls, naked pictures of Hillary C. in the bathroom...I cannot elaborate enough to explain how bad it really was. We have stayed in a lot of motels over the past ten years and this was the worst we have ever exprienced , we had been so excited about our trip and had looked forward to a great relaxing time what a let down . I appologize for being so rude but I would sure hope this would not happen to anyone else ."

 Well,I guess you have been lucky,Will :D

Thanks for the heads up on camping and showers.I do believe I am going to plan on camping.

I thought Mont Tremblant was an incredible track,so I can't imagine how Mosport could be better.

Guess I will have to see for myself

That Alfa sure does like to dance. I didn't notice a lot of braking

Man,that looks like fun!

I can't think of one reason why I shouldn't go to Mosport. 8)

Mosport is nuts. You'll come up to speed much faster if you get an early ride along with a friend.

I think the announcers for ALMS said the P1 and P2 cars were flat over turn 2 this year.

..yeah... that's not normal.

We need to get more registered members for this event. Right now there are 21 people signed up with only a hand-full paid.

I'm not exactly sure on the breakeven numbers but I would bet we have to at least double that number of 21 to make this event viable.
