Multi-link, independent suspension guys ... look @ this

Post by tju-vette » Thu Jul 03, 2008 8:55 pm

Over the winter I installed new hiem-jointed, adjustable length IRS links on the vette. So far I've been ecstatic with the results. The rear end stays planted much better than it did before.

Although the kit shown below was developed specifically for C4 Corvettes the idea can be used on any multi-link suspension. I have sold 5 kits so far for other cars and have had interest from two non-Corvette owners as well.

There are other kits like this on the market but they use jam nuts to lock the rod ends in place. That's old hat and jam nuts require big wrenches to go in typically tight places. These links use a collet like end with an omega clamp to lock the rod end in place, and all you need is a 12 point 1/4" socket!

I typically suggest the Teflon lined rod ends as they're less maintenance but options are available. The feedback I've gotten from my other customers is that they are not loud on the street which has been the knock on these in the past.

My supplier can offer links in 1/2" increments from about 6" bolt to bolt to over 40". These can be used for suspension links as well as toe rods. The rod ends are currently available in 1/2", 5/8" (16 mm) and 3/4" (19mm) bolt sizes.

Bolts of any size below 19 mm can be accommodated with sleeves.

Now I don't know every multi-link setup out there so I'd need your help in measuring your current links to size them right. Rough measurements from bolt to bolt are fine since these can be fine tuned for length.

With the change in safety rules in SPx, you can now add these to your car without having to add a roll cage, firesuit, etc. If you're interested at all, I'd be happy to talk to you and try to set you up with something. Just contact me. I will be @ NHMS both days next week, just look for a black C4 Corvette with white stripes, #166 SPA. Or the big buy with a beard who absolutely ruins the power to weight ratio of said Corvette.
