Events for next year

Post by dinoracer » Thu Dec 15, 2005 11:43 pm

Your board of directors is in the process of booking dates for next year. This is not a process of calling the tracks we like and telling them what weekends we want; it's a process of calling many tracks and begging, pleading for whatever dates are available.

While we have long-running relationships with some tracks, we've seen over the last couple of years that these are no longer guarentees that we'll get the same dates every year.

At NHIS, for instance, we used to get 4 weekends a year. Now we we were lucky to get the 4 we had last year (early April one was cancelled due to snow, and one became a Sun-Mon) This year, we have commitment so far for only 3 events, one being July 3-4 plus 2 weekends, a fourth looks doubtful.

When we're willing to take mid-week days, there are more possibilites.

Comments?

I'm sure I'm the exception but I prefer the weekday events. Most of my weekends are taken up with family commitments.

SCDA runs weekday events and are usually sold out.

Just my $.02.

I also like to do the midweek events. I do not do the far away events, I don't want to travel more than 6 hours to an event.

I don't mind the weekday events but it is nice to at least have one of the travel days on a weekend to cut down on the vacation time abuse.

Event scheduling

Post by denndy » Sun Dec 18, 2005 5:08 pm

Optimum for me would be 1 weekend day and a Friday or Monday. :D This provides weekend time for family, particularly my wife who doesn't yet share my driving urges. On the other hand, I have been able to attend a couple of Sunday time trials because of the weekend scheduling which might be more problematic for a weekday at NHIS.

For events farther than Watkins Glen, I agree that a weekend day to travel out (getting back is tiring but usually doable) would be very helpful to avoid a lost work day for travel there.

Thanks for asking although I realize that this is certainly not totally within our control,
Dennis
Sad to see my SSB 2001 Miata go.

I agree with being able to use a weekend for travel days either on the front or back end of the event. I do my best to make them all anyway.

My work schedule will be giving me mid-week off, so you know my bias.
