Great Event at Calabogie

Thanks to all that attended our event at Calabogie! I now have a new favorite track. I went HOW fast??
Thanks to the volunteers that helped at pit out and track out during the time trials: Diane, Nick, Frederic Roy and, of course, my main relief man, DJ. And to Melanie for doing our lunch ordering.
If DJ is any example, the Patroon BMW events must come off smooth and professional! John is working on getting some coop track time with them.
We changed a lot of grouping and run times on the fly to accomodate the group sizes, student/instructor ratios, etc., and it all came off extremely well. Bill H, Will, John, Les were instrumental in running a great all round show. Thanks, guys!
There were some light hilarious comments by the Calabogie corner workers concerning some of the participants, but I will hold those for a short blurb from Chief of Operations on the on line Drift. Bruce, let us know how to get our content to you.

all in all it was a great event dispite all my mechanical issues. i needed to have the oil stay out of the intake for 3 laps which it did. while i did miss out on 3 - 4 hours of practice, it turned out OK!

This was the AM of day 1, first session I was out, I believe, so I'm shaking cobwebs and "remembering" the line.

Wow! In a world full of in-car video clips, this has to be one of the highest quality videos I've ever seen. That's really fun to watch. What are you using for a camera, and where is it mounted? Besides being in HD, I really like the perspective. Driving the track looks exactly like that!

Also, FWIW, I watched it in HD with Firefox under Linux and it worked fine.

Cool, I should have several more to share. Within a few days I should be able to post video with a data dash overlay.

You'd be amazed on how much I spent on the camera. $199 at Walmart. AIPTEK Action-HD. AIPTEK.com has many models. The Action-HD is the best choice, and is only available from Walmart. Seems that Walmart flexed its collective muscle and got AIPTEK to let Walmart be the sole distributor for their best camera at a retail price cheaper than some of their inferior models.

The AIPTEK Action-HD is totally solid-state, shoots to SD cards. Shoots to h.264 Quicktime .mov format, which plays great in either Windows or Mac. The camera has a few quirks, but seems to work nicely for track video. Some big-dollar SD and HD camcorders are not suitable for in-car footage as they feature CMOS image sensors (not CCD sensors) which can demonstrate a jittery effect due to the nature of the CMOS sensor's rolling shutter. While the AIPTEK does demonstrate some jitteryness, it is not bad at all. Please note, this is not a jab at CMOS sensors! From what I've read and understand, CMOS sensors can blow away CCDs, it is just that the CMOS sensors used in some consumer products do not have enough transistors per pixel to eliminate the rolling shutter effect. That about right Carl?

Camera is mounted to the inside surface of the windshield with a Sticky Pod Dash model. I needed the two 3" extensions and two knuckles to get enough articulation in the mount to make it work. Does not take long to install, and I only eyeball the framing. Have been very lucky with the results of the camera & mount.

Picture would be more clear if I could eliminate the reflection from the dash. For example, the dash opening where the airbag used to be is visible at times.

I got goose bumps watching that! That said, I learned a lot about where the car should have been as opposed to where I was driving it!
