One less Atom

Post by offcamber09 » Thu Feb 28, 2008 10:02 pm

Well I hope all got to see the Atom at LRP last season, because Gary sold the car and is looking for a car that can be tracked and driven on the street. Thanks to the MA. powers that be that wouldn't allow the car on the road- we are all deprived of the chance to see the car developed further.

That's too bad. He could have "sold" the car to a NH resident and "rented" it back.

The Ma. Registry fears anything that does not conform to their pefect little box world. They are not an understanding bunch and find it is much easier to deny than to satisfy.

I was hoping to have another Atom owner on track to discuss various setups for the car with this year.Kind of a team effort.

Now that the Atom will be built in Virginia at VIR by TMI motorsports, I am hopefull more drivers will discover the car.

Ariel just announced a V-8 500hp model with padddle shifts.

It should be an interesting future for the Ariel Atom!

I'm guessing that anyone expecting to be competitive in SPB (or whatever) will be buying one

That's interesting, he sold it to someone in either Virginia or West Virginia.

As far as getting someone to put a sticker on it- as Gary said, "the car stand out too much".

Well, that stinks. Glad to hear Gary's priorities are straight though!

With all due respect, isn't it prudent to investigate whether a car can be registered in the state you live in before dropping serious coin on it?

That's like me buying an ICBM from shady COM Irish terrorists and complaining that MA won't let me keep it.

The problem with "asking" prior to owning is no one knows what you are talking about when you request an opinion on something like the Atom at the RMV.

If it were only as simple as asking a question.

I have to deal with their...shortcomings quite often and the best approach with the Ma. RMV is to make whatever you are trying to do "fit" into their existing boxes.

A crying shame.

What's that old saying about it being easier to ask forgiveness than permission? ;)

There's another one that deals more specifically with government agencies: Never ask a question that you don't already know the answer to.

i wouldn't let nazis keep me from streeting my car.

i've heard of people buying stickers. you could bribe someone or just find a friend of a friend.

scrape one off another car. Take a digital pict and print one out.

who's it gonna hurt? The hell with them bastages.

There will probably come a day when old cars or any car with mods whatsoever will be banned from the road.

The semi-cool thing that's happening by the end of 2008 is that in MA. there will be no more dyno-testing for smog tests. If you are driving a pre-1996 vehicle, it will not go on the rollers anymore- it's one reason we've resisted getting a MA. state inspection license so far. After the change, if your check engine light is off, or non-existent as the case my be on that engine swapped project car, you pass emissions.
I'm sure the powers that be will find some way to screw this up too.

Altering an inspection sticker is an arrestable offense.(altering a state document) You are better off with no sticker.

The problem in Ma. is registration time. There is no classification for a car like the Atom.

It does not pass emission requirements.

It is not accepted for DOT crash safety standards.

It is not a "kit" car.

Even the VIN does not fit on their precious RMV-1 form.

Plain ole SUCKS.

You can't even live in this state without hospital insurance (that's what it is)
