Can a novice sign up for open track/time trials days?

Any and all discussions concerning events.

Yes, students who do not get signed off for the 2nd day will be able to run the 2nd day with an instructor. Currently, this is offered at every track except NHIS/NHMS.
Does this mean the student runs the time trial with an instructor on board?
Wow! new policy?
I have not heard that before... on away events (except NHIS) by COM we CAN actually allow a student who has NOT qualified for 2nd day run to do the event with an instructor?

I don't think they can run in the TT - only in the two practice sessions before. I've never seen anyone go out for TT with an instructor.

That makes more sense but still needs to be monitored as there is no "student schedule" during the AM sessions on 2nd day ...
Expectation also is that everyone on 2nd day has been "cleared" is aware of what is going on.
I can see on away events if the number of students progressing to 2nd day but with instructor you will need to almost have a dedicated run group.
Also for instructors this is an extra task in addition to getting their cars set up for TT.
I like the idea, but was not aware this was possible and if so how is it monitored.

It is possible to sign off a student on the TT day if they have an instructor in the AM.

Hi Stephan, I think we have done this for a couple of seasons now, but could be wrong. It is still true that the TT is out - no instructors in the car, so the "student" could not run the tt unless they were signed off that day (or the day before).

Not sure that it has been an issue in the past. Drivers often slow down when they are signed to solo and do not have the instructor in the car. This is perfectly natural. A good instructor should calm a nervous driver and inspire confidence. Confidence equals speed. Reduce or take away the confidence, and speeds drop. Again, totally natural. So, a "signed to solo" driver is potentially slower than a "student" with an instructor in the car, which makes the idea of a special rungroup a moot point.

At every event, I almost always offer to ride with a student the next day anyway, unless I do not have the free time.
