Can a novice sign up for open track/time trials days?
I was registering for the NHMS event in April and am not sure if a novice can sign up for both days. Are open track days/time trials only for advanced drivers? Thanks!

Q: Should I sign up for both days on my first event weekend?
A: You can't run a Time Trial without approval from an instructor. You can sign up for both days, but there is no guarantee you'll be allowed to run (in which case, you would get a refund for the second day).

We have occasionally had to cancel for snow.
You MAY change your registered car the day of the event. Just tell registration and mark up your tech sheet before turning it in at Tech.
To encourage non-licensed people to attend away events where they may not want to go for one day we have had a policy of providing instructors for the second day in the unlikely event you do not get licensed or "signed off to solo" on your first day.

Thanks Bruce.I was holding off signing up for Watkins Glen as I did not know if I would be able to run both days being a novice. However,if you are saying there will be instructors available for the second day in the event I am not signed off, I will go ahead and book reservations. Appreciate the help!

Also, if you think that you would intend to run the time trials and you know ahead of time that you will be changing cars, it would be helpful to let Bo, the tropny chair know so he will be prepared with the right car counts in each class.

I will be watching the forecasts and make a decision as I can't bring both cars (unless I get a 28' trailer.)
Oh, come now. You must have seen this Fifth Gear report. Scroll ahead to 3:21 to see how well the Atom handles weather.breakaway500 wrote:The Atom is miserable in the rain.

Rain? How about snow? I was in the passenger seat in Gary's Atom at our Lime Rock event. A flurry hit the track while we were out. Most cars pitted-in, but not us! Track was closed down for about 45 minutes due to the weather. We were one of the first cars back out. Got to love the determination and commitment of an Atom driver. The fool instructor in the passenger seat is another story. Thank god for insulated coveralls!

Does this mean the student runs the time trial with an instructor on board?WillM wrote:Breakaway - go for it (2 days)!
Yes, students who do not get signed off for the 2nd day will be able to run the 2nd day with an instructor. Currently, this is offered at every track except NHIS/NHMS.
