Australian V8 Supercar Racing

Post by cuda6666 » Sat Dec 29, 2007 4:03 pm

Wow! Best road racing I've seen on TV in a while. On Speed Channel, usually in the afternoon when they need programming to run in between the really classy shows like "Pimp My Ride" and "Monster Jam."

Amen. Did you catch th German touring car race just before the Aussie one? While i love them both, i find the German one to be super fast pro top dollar and the Aussie to be nearly as amazing. Those tweaked out German cars are blindingly fast.
Enjoy the Track,

Saterday's Supercar race, The Bathearst 1000, goes up one side of Mt. Panorama and down the other. VERY fast (300Kph), narrow and scary. 900hp and very aggressive driving makes a great series.

Concerning the German Touring Car series, what we need is a World Touring Car championship. Factory backed teams with F1 caliber drivers and big purses. And, I might add...minimal rules.

There was a Brazilan driver named Max Wilson racing for the Australian series. I did not watch this one. Wonder if he is still there.
Test driver for Williams F-1 at one point and Brazilian Kart Champion.
I almost became his manager when he was looking for a seat at Indy... :?

Not that I want to be thought of as one of the age-challenged- but how 'bout the Trans Am series before they went the way of the fake headlight stickers?

Yes. Both the CanAm and early TransAm were great series.

The TransAm was popular because (1) the cars were tricked out versions of what you could buy from a showroom, and (2) the drivers were top flight professionals driving cars that were ten times safer than what they were used to. Lots of door banging action. Also, the rules were loose enough to spawn legendary tricks like acid dipped chassis and iron filing coated transmissions.

The CanAm caught the public's interest because these were the most dangerous, balls-to-the-wall cars ever created. The rules were..well..run what you brung..and it better have at least 750 HP! The series flew high until some officious genius decided to ban Jim Hall's sucker car.

I knew there was a reason I was reluctanct to post in this thread- there's always a former STI guy waiting to pounce.

The Stegosaurus had the advantage of four leg drive, and the line of dorsal scales gave great directional stability at high speed. The big nagative was that heavy spiked tail that resulted in a significant rear weight bias contributing to serious trailing throttle oversteer.

My choice was always the Allosaurus. Rear leg drive, lots of power, and light weight when compared to the related Tyranosaurus model.
