Are legends cars legal to run at Com events, and if so, is it safe to assume that they fit in a prepared class?

I mean these. Small displacement engines, tube frames, very light, single seat, etc.. The league runs them on a spec street tire, and I think toyota corolla street brake pads. The original intent was to provide access to the cheapest racing available.

I have seen sedans, andsmall pickups towing these on snow mobile trailers. It doesn't look like the leagues for these cars are doing very well and used cars have been hitting the market in higher numbers. A decent example can be purchased for between 3 and 8 grand, with spares.

I have not seen any with com but I have seen them at other track day events. As for classification, I would think either FP or PC. They have full bodies but are open wheeled. Dwarf cars are pretty similar except for the spec body. They both are some what common in oval track racing and they are plentyful enough to be viable track day car.

I'm paraphrasing from a corner-carvers post I just saw: Since they are designed for short ovals, they do not have available gearing to be useful at tracks with the longer straights.....perhaps such as Mosport, WGI etc.. they also have a very small fuel cell, limiting time per session.

Still it is a very cool idea, and that, aside from the cost of engines, can be very cheap to use as track car.

Yes but can it be competitive? It all depends what you want to get out of it. If only for cost issues than it won't matter which class you are in.

Assuming I were to go in that direction...

I would consider sacrificing over all competitiveness, if it means that I can do more events on the whole. What I have read has suggested that if set up correctly, those cars can be relatively quick. I just wanted to know if a car like that would be allowed at all. I have only seen them on short ovals, and only in the context of sharing the track with each other. They have been seen at NASA HPDE's which suggests to me that they are starting to trickle beyond the league margins.

I could not see a reason that a legend car would not be allowed. It is dimensionally similar to bill fitzmaurice's monte carlo. Taller and easier to see on the track (probably safer) that an formula vee. With its power to weight ratio, and with modifications beyond the legend spec, it should be dominant in pc and competitive in fp (when bruce does not want to run).

Bill Fitzmaurice's car was originally powered by a motorcycle motor just like the dwarf, legend, and mini-sprints. The Legends all run a spec Yamaha 1200 cc motor of approx. 130 h.p.. Most mini-sprints and Dwarf cars run Suzuki motors in various sizes from 600cc to 1300cc with horse power running from 115 to 194.4 h.p. On the dirt tracks like Westfield, they only use the first two gears yet hit 115 mph on a little over an 1/8 mile track. The super mod stock cars that used to run at Riverside Raceway 1/4 mile could only hit 65-75 mph.
With the high power to weight, one of these cars set up properly for the track would be fast and very reliable. I would think it would run in the same class as Bill's car, PC
Good luck with it Troy :lol: If you get one with a Suzuki motor I can help you out with parts and advice. :wink: I have many customers with these motorcycle powered cars ( I sponsor the East Coast Mini Sprints Club 750cc division). The Radical road race cars are also Suzuki powered 1300cc with up to 280 h.p.

I don't know if I'm ready to make a change like this yet, but I have been intrigued by these since I first saw them. I like the idea of thrashing one of these about over thrashing my Cobra. The CC dot com guys have posted more info regarding the gearing, and fuel cell issues..

I know I don't have all the info and angles worked out, but I just think it could be so cost effective to use a crown vic or small SUV/pickup to pull a single space snowmobile trailer with one of those cars stacked on it. Heck, I'd even consider running it on the spec tire due them wearing like iron. I just seems like it would be a blast to drive.

At one point the Legends cars were running with us in F Production. They were fast as hell in a straight line and scary as hell in the corners. Talk about a 4 wheel drift on pavement in every corner. With better rubber I would think they would be a good PC car. The cars I've seen have had some form of fenders.
