Post by cuda6666 » Sun Nov 25, 2007 11:20 am

A time and place has been determined for a Meet and Greet with Bobby and Al Unser.

Place: Nahua Harley Davidson
Date: Wednesday, November 28
Time: 5 PM to whenever
Address: 717 Milford Road, Merrimack, NH

Hope to see you there.

Now I've got to go review their Indy victories so I can ask insightful, well informed questions

For those unfamiliar with the area, and without a GPS, Map Quest, etc,
The Nashua Harley is located on Rte 101A and the corner of Continental Blvd. Right next to Home Depot and across the street from VIP Discount Auto and McDonalds.
I picked up a couple of items on eBay for autographs for my grand kids.
1968 was a pivotal year in Indy history. It was the Turbine vs Piston clash. Won by Bobby in his piston engined car - his first Indy victory. Bobby also dominated the race by leading 127 of the 200 laps. Leonard was the highset placing turbine, but fell short by 12 laps when a fuel shaft broke, the infamous $2.00 part. I have a DVD of that race.

1968 was also the year of the TET offensive. Peace to my brothers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Thanks for the info, Sam.

BTW, I refreshed my memory on the Unsers' accomplishments.

Bobby won Indy in 68, 75, and 81. He's the only driver to win in three separate decades. He's also famous for saying "Success is where preparation and opportunity meet." Bobby also ran in one F1 GP.

Al, of course, is tied with AJ Foyt for the most Indy wins (4).

My latest information suggests that it would be a good idea to get there early.

For those of you who would like to meet the Unsers, but can't make the Wednesday stop, here is the complete schedule of their appearances in NH.

Please note again, that on Wednesday, you should arrive early (4:30 - 4:45) at Nashua Harley Davidson.

Manchester, NH – Legendary Indy car drivers Bobby Unser, Sr. and Al Unser, Sr. will stump the Granite State this week for Governor Bill Richardson. The famous brothers will highlight the Governor’s successful leadership of their home state of New Mexico, as well as his steadfast support for hunters and outdoorsmen.

I have to thank Frank for making this connection for us! What a great, rare treat to meet these 2 Indy 500 icons. It was a real laid back "meet and greet" with much story swapping, autographs and pictures. The Unsers are real down to earth guys and were more than willing to autograph what ever you had and however much you brought. Bruce Allen and I had plenty of time there and still were early for the rules meeting.
Thanks again Frank.

Sam. I've got a great one of you and Al (which I'd hoped Bruce would post for me since he's such technology icon)

Anyway, I can send it to you if you PM me your email address.
