Mazda CX7
Mazda CX7
My wife and I are considering a Mazda CX7 to replace her Mazda 6 sedan, which was recently totaled (everyone is ok).
Does anyone here have one, or have driven one they can give me some opinions on?
Thanks!

I'd like to think that Mazda should be paying royalties to Alfa Romeo after they copied the Bertone Giuletta concept in what turned out to be something called "Miata"....
I'd love to tell you that Alfa Romeo is coming soon back to America but then again they have been telling us that for the past 3 years.
I am sure it's a better ride than any Mazda.
Other than than I can't help you other than occasionally some Mazdas come into my class ... sometimes I get them, sometimes they get me...
C'est la belle vie!
Try Edmunds review.

I drove a CX7 as a rental for a day once. Nice ride. I am not familiar with the other offerings in the segment, but think the CX7 can hold its own. If I were in the need of a similar vehicle, it would be on the list.
As for the Bertone Giuletta, actually Giulietta, nice car, but the Miata was inspired by the Lotus Elan, not the Giulietta. I think the Giulietta, at least the front end, was an inspiration for a different car...

You are forgertting that the BERTONE Designer who designed the Giulietta WORKED for Lotus, so it's the SAME GUY. Look at the back and the style of the Bertone Giulietta and you'll the it is a lot closer than the Elan.
Anyway, I beleive the chat on this topic is about Mazda that Troy V wants to get.
Sorry for the "tangence" (in French ... could also mean the apex )

Troy, don't let these guys talk you into a Mazdaspeed 3.
You will hate it! You'll hate it because you will want
sooooooo much to track it!!
Plus, if you need an auto tranny, ya can't get one.
Which is a positive in my case since my wife drives faster than me,
but can't work the clutch due to bad knees.

Yes. The wife has taken this one of the table. These were her words to me when we saw the MS3 in the showroom at Liberty Mazda two nights ago.
Hatch back/wagon....strike one....related to the Ford Focus.....strike two......manual transmission....strike three.
Bummer.
She did however like the Miata next to it. My reply was: only two seats...strike one....RWD....strike two.....you get this in an automatic and I'll choke you...strike three.

A CX-7 is a hatchback/wagon with a much higher c.g., howzat *better*?
??? again. That Ford removes all that is cool about it and stuffs it with general crappiness and mediocrity, and renames it "Focus", doesn't detract from the 3. I drove a rental Focus, and absolutely couldn't BELIEVE that it's (supposedly) the same car as my wife's 3. The 3 is a GREAT car. The Focus? Well, it's crap (the one I drove anyway).....related to the Ford Focus .....strike two
"Normal" 3 is available with an auto of course...manual transmission....strike three.

rwd is not inherently evil.....RWD....strike two
Girls can drive rwd. Kids can drive rwd. It's ok...
Learning to drive should be considered a requirement, of course, just like for fwd, awd, and 4wd vehicles.
I say, get the Miata and spend the rest of your days resisting the urge to choke her!
If all you require is a back seat over a Miata, why get the needless extra height, weight, and rollover potential of an SUV? There are other options!

I'm not saying I said that stuff about the MS3, I said my wife said that stuff. Assuming you are married, you should know better than to argue over that stuff. That fight gets saved for when you are in the dog house. MS3 is off the table.
As for the Miata assessment, it is spot on for her application.
As for the CX, you are right, it is a tall wagon, but it is her choice to make.
So, I take it no one here actually owns one.

Just to set the record straight: The Speed 3 has little in common with ther US version of the Focus. It rides on a platform shared with the
European Focus and the Volvo C40. The European Focus is considered an excellent car. Any relationship to the US
Focus in purely coincidental!

Yup, I hear ya. I wanted my wife to get a WRX, but she wouldn't have that "scoopy thing" on the hood! This was in '05, the Speed3 wasn't out, so we got the Clark Kent version Mazda3 (which is really a much better choice for her anyway). Cross-shopped against the regular Impreza, the Mazda is WAY nicer. No awd, though.TroyV wrote:I'm not saying I said that stuff about the MS3, I said my wife said that stuff. I know this is totally the norm, but I'm always totally baffled by it. Why do people (women and men) who don't have any need whatsoever for an SUV even *consider* them? I'm sure the CX7 is one of the best-handling, most carlike SUV's out there, but if there's no need for the carrying capacity and ground clearance, why live with the more cumbersome size and high center of gravity? As for the Miata assessment, it is spot on for her application

If it's spot-on for her application, Miata, Miata, Miata, even with an automatic!
