In SSU, can I run a 5 point harness with a belt bar without a HANS device. '99 Corvette FRC. Running stock seats. Need clarification.

Re: rules
I didn't read anything about Hans devices being mandatory in any class..is this something new?
It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. "Lap times matter"
Re: rules
Mark, you don't need a Hans as long as you promise not to go over 50 mph- come to think of it you don't need a Hans period
There is no SSU class anymore. If the Corvette is running in Super Classes you need a roll bar plus I would never use a harness bar with out a roll bar. Not safe

Re: rules
Bottom line - we have new classes, but yes, this is allowed...although I wouldn't recommend it.
First of all, a clarification - in 2013 and 2014 we rolled out an entirely new set of classes, replacing the old Showroom Stock, Street Touring, Street Prepared, and Prepared classes with new Touring and Super classes. Touring classes now points-based where production vehicles receive a base class, and each modification is assessed points. Super classes are pure power/weight based.
For a rough comparison, the old SSU class typically translates to one of the new Touring classes, either T80 or T90. Unless you have a seriously built motor or tons of mods, then yes, you may run a 5-point harness with a belt bar and stock seats without a HANS device.
I won't give you a safety lecture - risk acceptance is a personal choice. For me, I don't like running without a HANS-like device, which generally means having proper belts and rollover protection.
