ignore the 'GTI' in my name
I own a 1988 BMW 325iS
My car has the following performance modifications:
H&R Sport Springs
Bilstein Sport Dampers
E30 M3 rear sway bar
Sparco front strut brace
JimC ECU
15x7" ET20 wheels

Currently I am running 205/50/15 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s but next year I got a line on a wicked set of tires:
Im probably getting a nice set of street legal Dunlop Formula R D01Js next season

These are considered a 'street compound' in the UK and Japan and they sneak under the radar of being a true 'r-compound' tire

<img src="http://tyre.dunlop.co.jp/tyre/lineup/sp ...
However, because these tires are not available in the US, and therefore do not have a DOT tag... would these be classified in a COM event as an 'r-compound'?

I can get 4 of those in 215/50/15 for $100/ea

These (advan 04 are also available to me for the same price as the D01Js

The D01J wear well on the street (about equal to an SP8000 or FM901) and in the UK are considered the premier Track Day tire for street driven cars.

Im wondering where this would put me in the COM classifications.
The D01Js are not a DOT tire but in the countries they are sold in, they are a street legal tire.
I know I wont be able to hang with anyone running proper slicks, but Id like to have the best street compound available

Car Classification and Non-US Street tire question
I think that COM rules require a DOT approved tire for all classes except Prepared. So if you want to run in ST I would find a DOT approved tire. Plenty of approved tires available on this side of the world.
