New Jersey Motorsports Park, Aug 1 & 2, 2011

Notes direct from the track:

NJMP Registration Procedures and Notes

Please be sure that all event organizers are familiar with the procedures listed below. It is also advisable that you distribute applicable information to all participants of your event. This will allow for a more organized entry into the park and a better experience for everyone involved.

1. The NJMP participant registration window at our registration building will be open the night before an event from 6-10 pm and also from 7:00-10 am every morning. All participants must go to the NJMP window to sign our waiver and pay for additional services such as camping, electricity, garages, and suite rentals. Participants will not be able to purchase additional services outside of these registration hours. No one will be allowed to enter the park without the proper wrist band or credential.

2. Your club may run its’ participant registration from our registration building or the paddock classroom. Credentials distributed by your club are for your internal operations only and do not override or substitute NJMP credentials unless previously authorized by NJMP.

3. Typically, your group will not be allowed to enter the paddock until 7pm the night before an event. However, NJMP security personnel may permit early entry on a case by case basis. This will never occur before 6pm. The same procedure applies to the morning entry time of 7am.

4. State of New Jersey Chapter 62 Race Track Regulations do not allow anyone under the age of 18 to enter the hot pits. Therefore, NJMP security will not allow anyone without the proper wristband/credentials to go beyond the pit lane fence. These credentials will be distributed at our registration window.

5. Additional notes which should be distributed to ALL participants:

- Helmets must be SA2000, SA2005, or SA2010. M rated helmets are allowed for Drivers Education events. All helmets MUST be closed face.
- Seat belts must be no older than 2 years – (SFI) or 5 years – (FIA).
- All convertibles must have rollover protection ( No “pop-up” bars ).
- Shorts and open shoes are NOT permitted beyond the pit lane fence.
- Plywood must be used under all jack stands and jacks.
- Kickstand pads must be used under all motorcycles.
- Helmets must be worn when riding mopeds and motorcycles anywhere on the property.

NOTES FROM ME:

1. I WILL MISS MY FIRST EVENT IN NEARLY 6 YEARS - BOOOOO!!. Tom Cannon will be the acting chief of ops.
2. DO NOT drive any unregistered vehicles outside the track proper! The roads surounding the track and connecting Lightning with Thunderbolt are PUBLIC roads!
3. Pay attention to the helmet rules posted above.
4. Fuel (93, 100 and 110 octane) is available at the track. Pumps will be open from 800am to 400pm.
5. The concession stand will be open from 1100am to 100pm.
6. Have fun and be safe!

There is a gotcha you might want to be aware of. In New Jersey, there is no self-service fueling. Also, attendants will not put fuel in containers of the wrong color. For gasoline, they must be red.

Sam-

I'll do my best to match the fine service you've been providing ...

Just to be clear, our event IS considered a "Drivers Education" event, right? So my motorcycle helmet is OK, right?

Thanks Tom

A Bit of clarification from the track

My question to the Track Manager:

Since this is our first return since the new helmet rule, I just want to be sure we're clear.

Is a face shield required even in a closed car? Most of what I see on the internet says yes, but I did find a BMW club entry that claimed that an open face inside a closed car was OK.

Just want to be sure

And his answer:

Hi Tom,

The State Police have agreed to allow open face helmets in Street Cars with active airbag systems ( for 2011 only at this time ). However, Closed Face helmets are required for racing. A visor is really only required for open cockpit cars.

This particular point matters to me, as I have a closed front Bell S2B helmet; it didn't come with a face-shield which consider not needed anyway since I run a closed car. But it does have the HANS anchors. I'd rather wear this helmet than my bike helmet, which has the shield but not the anchors. I'm taking his use of "visor" to mean the clear face shield, not the black clip-on visor some helmets have.

Thanks Tom!

For the record, I agree with your interpretation: Visor meaning face shield.

So there will be garages available?
Do you know how many and the price.
Is this only done at registration?

I am assuming that "open cockpit" cars means cars without a windshield :?: I will be driving a street miata with the top down and two functional air bags.

Another strange point .....

I had thought that SA 2000 helmets were to now be considered out of date ?

I happen to have two, fully enclosed w/ sheilds, will toss thenm in the truck just in case we have a need.

Any clarification on the follwing from the track:

Power ?
Camping @ Lightening as we did @ Thunderbolt ?
Food (other than the cookout) ?
etc.

I did check, and was told it would be the same as Thunderbolt ... wondering if you all heard the same ?

Thanks
Pat

SA2000 helmets are out of date per the COM rules. In a pinch, folks might still get a one-event waver. So it doesn't hurt to bring them.

Would I be correct that the students will be instructed in an air conditioned room near by - I pray...I`m am thinking about the heat and humidity.
Or would that be a tent in the field with a wet rag as the preferred cooling item.
Honestly, Liz will melt in the heat, so I betting on the cool class room.

Wunderground says:

Monday: Mostly sunny. Hot with highs in the mid 90s.
Tuesday: Sunny. Highs in the lower 90s.

I hope that oil cooler I just installed does its job.

The calendar shows a private event on Lightning the next day. I expect as long as you're not in the way, you could stay overnight without a problem.

I think you might be pushing their flexibility there. The law is pretty clear about face shields required even in closed cars; they are bending it a bit already. I would bring a face shield helmet if you can. I'm bringing my cycle helmet just in case.
