Looking for good 2004 Mazda 6 engine

My brother-in-law asked me if he should buy a used Mazda 6, and I of course said yes - they're bullet proof. So now he's got a blown engine and I feel like a jerk. Any tips on where he might find a relatively low milage replacement. Car has std transmission. Thanks
