At WGI someone mentioned that they had an upgrade for Corvette C4 brakes. I seem to remember the mention of a "really good price" too, but I can't remember who it was.

I am sure that you could retrofit Z06 C5 corvette brakes onto it without any problems. It would be cheap also.....other than that, I am sure that you could get some stoptech brakes for it also.....but those would be much more expensive.

The difference would be that a brake upgrade would probably keep the car in ST with the update/backdate rules - Stoptech's (or other aftermarket) kick it into SP.

Since I have to do alot of brake work this week, I figured it would be a good time to upgrade, but I won't be spending $1K or more to do it. Someone mentioned that they had a set leftover in their garage from a car they used to have or something like that.
It couldn't hurt to comply with the class rules too.

What width front rotor do you currently have? The C4 had standard and heavy duty brake options. The Standard is a 12" diameter x 0.8" thick front rotor, the heavy duty is a 13" x 1.1" rotor. All that is needed to convert is the rotor and caliper / bracket.

Shawn, it was I who you talked to. I have the Z07 rotors from my '91 Vette. They have about 200 miles on them and they are GM and not aftermarket. The fronts are 13" rather than 12", the rears are 12". $125 buys them. Kevin

Shawn;
You have the Z51 brakes in your car. This is the big brake kit for that year. The spare parts I gave you with the car have the stock small brakes. You might want to try DBA rotors with Hawk "blue" pads. I found on my heavier Mustang I could run 6 events and not have to change pads. I ran the rotors 2 1/2 seasons and they were still good but I wanted to try the aluminum "hat" rotors. Plus your car even has the cooling ducts for thr front brakes.

I'll just throw out what info I've found on the subject of C4 brake upgrades:
1) sbleiweiss & DanDarcy are correct, the C4s came stock w/ 12" brakes (JL9) and the 13" HD brakes (J55). The J55s were put on all Z07 and Z51 cars. If you have the 13" rotors they're J55s.
2) Some may say that the Grand Sport brakes are better than the stock J55s. That's crap, they're just prettier.
3) C5 brakes can be put on a C4 by changing the rotors and calipers and will obviously need a caliper bracket. However, the sawblade wheels will likely give you clearance issues. You will have to check fitment first otherwise you may get a surprise. Conventional thinking says you're better off going with C5Z06 17" wheels or ZR1 replicas.
I don't claim to be an expert in anything (except perhaps being good a pi$$ing people off sometimes) but would be happy to share anything I've learned in what seems like hours upon hours of research on this topic.

Sounds like the ones I have on there are as good as they get. I could not wait any longer to get the Corvette back on the road after using up the brakes at WGI so I just did all of the pads, the stock rear rotors, new braided brake lines and a healthy dose of Super Blue fluid. I think I will just use the Hawk Blue front, Black back for the track and stock pads for the street.
Thanks for all of the input. It was very helpful.
