2007 Watkins Glen Notes

Post by deimos » Thu Apr 05, 2007 1:13 pm

1) Camping is allowed.
2) The on site concession stand will be open for lunch both days.
3) The souvenir store may be open one day.
4) We're using the full track (aka the Long Course).
5) The Glen Club burnt down, so there is no formal COM banquet.
6) We are allowed to use the track garages.
7) We have to be out by 6 PM on Tuesday.
8) Early arrival on Sunday is from 6 PM to 10 PM only.

Overall, the long range forecast looks like "not snow".

Did we have to guarantee the snack bar a specific amount of sales?

Perhaps we could plan an unofficial dinner somewhere. I am staying at the Seneca Lodge but its large restaurant is not open until May (although the bar is open!!).
Maybe the ONLY thing open is the McDonalds.

The Ginny Lee is open at Wagners Vinyard, its on rt414 heading north in Lodi , over looks the lake, has a winery and a brewery. about 20 minutes from Watkins Glen.

I don't think I will be able to do Watkins .

Remember from an event last year someone bought great fried/baked chicken from ???? that was near the track. Was very tasty. Count me in as a camper and for dinner plans.

Question: when arriving the day before the COMSCC event do i head towards the pits or is there some other place we go (and with electrical hookup i hope). Sorry for newbie camper questions, not bringing wife to events means saving thousands of $$ due to no hotel fees :)
Enjoy the Track,

I just made my reservations at the Seneca Lodge also. He was just cleaning up the bar in preparation for us!

I have just signed up for WGI since NHIS1 has been canceled. I have a very good freind who lives in Lodi N.Y. which is 20 minutes North of Watkins Glen. If a group wants to get together for dinner , I could check with her to find a good place. Just let me know.

Count me in for dinner. Heck, if she has a good kitchen i'll cook a nice Italian meal for everyone.

I am going with Grove Marcy being my pit crew. I am still hoping to test this coming Tursday at NHIS before flipping the lap timer transmitter over to the right side.

I don't know the answer to this. I suggest calling the track and asking. WGI usually reserves a spot for camping near one of the paddocks.

I called the Seneca Lodge, They are opening the large restaurant for another club the Friday before our event. I didnt speak with Gloria, The person in charge of the restaurant. But was given her phone number to call and see if she could set it up. Any interest? If so she can be reach at 6075352036. She might set it up for us
