I believe the 4pt roll bar would be fine, however I would recommend you modify it to add a diagonal and a harness bar.
Plus when you install it, bolt in is OK, however I would recommend bigger footer plates and welding it in.

if you look clesley at the second picture you can see the legs of the roll bar/cage have punctured through the floor, allwing the whole cage to move down on top of the driver.

you will pass with a 4 point roll bar . but as timmy stated do the cage if you have it . its not bad on oil temps at least on any of the cars i have . its hard on brakes just becouse you will get up to a high speed and then on the brakes . there is not enough time for air to flow over the brakes to cool them before your on the brakes for the next turn . some people go down to home depot and get the cheap metal dryer ducting . i tend to go for the real ducting made for brake cooling . but the cheap ducting does work alot of racers in the 944 spec use it .

Agreed on the cage vs hoop, however as you said this would be a street car also, full cage is not a good Idea. I would therefore reommend doing a really good job of the 4pt roll bar.
Again bolt in is fine if done right, and not if done wrong as in the Mustang above.

you will need padding on the bar were ever you may come in contact with the roll bar/cage . you will also have to do the same for the passenger side of the car . you will have an instructor with you so any safety gear that you have you will have to have for him or her also ! by the way nice off at the auto-x !!!!!

Yeah I was not thinking of putting any roll bar/cage in this car because the paint is peeling and its cheaper to replace the entire shell with one with nice paint than to get a quality paint job on this car.
But if I can bolt in a roll bar to this car thats removable, that I can transfer to the next car, and if I can reinforce the mounting points on the floor with 1/8" 6x6" steel plates and some grade 8 hardware. I can make a bar/cage probably more safe than a weld in bar and remove it when I get rid of this chassis in a year or 2 and either sell it off or transfer it depending on my goals at that point.
A bolt in bar still wont get me anywhere the drag strip which sucks.
Padding will be used regardless
I honestly dont think I'll be fast enough as a very new driver to drive with enough confidence to over heat the HP+ setup my first time out, and if I need more brakes I can just get a set of Hawk Blues and on street tires the stock brakes should never give up.

After your first track day you wont feel the desire to go to the drag strip
Other than safety equipment, the only things you need to do to your car for your first event is make sure everything is tight and works, no need to upgrade brakes except for pads.
Come to our next event and chek it out, ride along and see if you like it before you go and commit any time and resources to making your car fit.

I can do that. I will probably do the SCDA event on the 23rd and I would love to do a ride along with you guys the weekend after. Could I bring my GF for a ride along/ class instruction as well? I am slowly getting her hooked on motorsports.
She thinks I drive fast on the street untill I brought her out in the car this past weekend for autox. She was out of breath after wards. Then she went for a ride in a vette on r-comps thats 10 full seconds faster than my car and she said it was nuts, now she wants to go again this weekend. I'm getting her hooked slowly I am sure if she can keep from wetting herself she'll love a full speed ride along with someone from your group.

You should still be able to use the car at the drag strip. A cage isn't required untl you break the 10.5 sec mark.
I agree with above though, 3 or 4 12 second runs does not compare to multiple 20 minute runs at all.

An Autopower bolt in roll bar for RX7 is not obtrusive and should be considered.

Hayden, that rollover is terrifying. F=MA, there's not all that much M relatively in the car, so the A must have been pretty wild to cause the car to strike and bleed off both M and A, flip, roll 180 and hit again and lose more parts (M) and A, then turn 2 more full 360's!! I tink the '91 is getting a cage this winter.
