Or, alternatively, go to the registry and pay the taxes (but do not register the vehicle) within 7 days of the purchase. I thought it was 30 days, but could be wrong.

I did this exact thing a few years ago, but waited 60 days or so. The RMV was more than happy to charge me a penalty for each day I was late. #-o
