Dateline rural NY: In an unexplained series of deer vs. car accidents it appears that people are actually speeding up to hit these mutated deer. One driver, after being extricated with the jaws of life, said "I felt a obligation to humanity to kill that deer...has anyone seen my spleen?"rajito wrote:Mick, you're so en-dear-ing.Mick wrote:Huh? What were all the Subie guys doing by the side of the road?

Not quite sure what fully happened yet, but I did discover some of the problem. My PCV valve failed, and the crankcase pressure got too high, thus blowing a seal out of the front of the engine. The seal was for the water pump drive shaft. So needless to say I was getting a rediculous oil leak, and also that driveshaft started flopping around in there causing a whole lot of racket. Sounded like a main bearing was spun or something. So far seems like this is not the case. Now comes the menacing part......I changed the oil and on the drain plug magnet there was a whole mess of spare steel parts on it. I don't mean a little steel fuzz either, I mean like big steel chunks (1/4" long by 1/8" sq.)!!! My task now is to figure out where these parts came from, and what caused it. I am gonna get a scope to put into the oil pan to see if I can see anything without taking the engine apart. I have a feeling that there may have been some interference between the oil pan and crank, that has been eliminated causing the chunks, but it is only a guess at this point. Once I figure out what is wrong, then I will need to determine the best way to get all the remnant pieces out of the block. So needless to say, it looks like I have some work to do...AGAIN!!! This thing is killing me, and my wallet.
