I agree with mark 100% . She didn't like being lied to. That was the real issue.
I wouldn't like it if my wife lied to me. The normal response is to get defensive and lash out in anger and in doing so some people say the most unrational stuff I have ever heard. Common sense usually does not prevail and goes right out the window.
His priority should be to work on his relationship and maybe the other perks will come along. Like trust, so you feel that you have to lie to do what you like.

again she has no idea she was lied to .
lieing is wrong but so is not letting the one you love have some fun in life .
life is way to short and there is much more to it than cutting the grass .

That dude needed to put his foot down a long time ago, or go find another chick. She controls him, and he lets her. The only way he got away with anything was to lie. Now she feels like she can control everything he does. It's his fault. Sounds miserable. Who cares how much money you have if you can't enjoy it.

It is semantics; it appears that you and your friend, Fred, conspired to deceive his wife. In my book it is still being insincere - it makes no difference if his wife is aware of it or not.
I will reserve judgment on their marital situation since I have only heard "half of the story".
BTW - I hope your friend got more then one session at LRP while driving your 944.

Mr. Miagi one told Danielson - Go find the balance.
Same here. Fred-i-son needs to find the balance.
I have not missed an event in 4 years. My wife occassionaly comments on how much time I spend at the track. She understands how much I enjoy it and all the friends I associate with. So when I have a free weekend and things need to be done around the house or she want to go out to eat. No problem, I do not touch the cars. I spend time on what she wants to do. She is the priority, not the car!
I have found the balance and it works for me. No lies, No issues, No complaints here.

and don't include me with his deception ! i did not say any thing or even know about it untill the day of me posting this . i did state that before !
but i'm also not going to drop the dime on him !
and your right if there has to be a balance made then you should do so .
as for my self i would never do that as the person has to take me for who i am and my hobbies .
the down side with Fred is there is no balance to be made other than divorce . i told him not to marrie her to begain with when she told him he has to stop riding motorcycles or she would not marrie him .
would you stop doing the things in your life that make you happy because your wife told you to ?
i would bet you wouldn't ! the 1st thing you would do is what Bob said try and find a happy medium then when that did not work what would you do ?
just stop doing things you have always done from when you were a kid ?
so that would be no more cars , boats or motorcycles all things you have had a love for your interior life .
or would you divorce her or lie to her .
for me divorce would be the way i would go but i would not marrie some one like that to begain with .
he felt lieing was the best way for him i guess ? the down side to that is she hates me more than she did before just because she thinks i sold him the car . as for her hating me well join the club with that !
