Towing - How much torque is enough?

I hear you. When I first started towing I was using a regular cab, short bed, F150 and unless I had the tongue weight perfect it could get sketchy. When I later switched to a full sized truck the difference was amazing.

Downsizing to a mid-size SUV, I'm most concerned about the shorter wheelbase, so I got the smallest/lightest trailer I could find.
