Register for NHMS-4 and bring a camera. :)

If I recall correctly, the flames going into the braking zone of T3 at NHMS are particularly nice this time of year. Must be the crisp fall air.

In MegaSquirt terms, the setting is called Over Run Fuel Cut. The option is found under the More Settings drop-down menu.

I'm no expert, but I believe:
RPM greater than should be a bit higher than your idle speed.
and kPa lower than should be lower than your kPa at idle (ie, if your MAP at idle is 30, try 15).
andTPS lower than should be a point or three higher than the reading at closed throttle (foot off the pedal).
and coolant greater than (I have no idea)
after 2 seconds or so.

In one of my old MegaSquirt files, the Over Run Fuel Cut settings were:
RPM: 2000
kPa: 16
TPS: 42
Coolant: 160
After 2

You could find a ball park kPa number in your driveway. Connect with MegaTune, rev the motor, snap off the throttle, and watch the Engine MAP gauge.

I'm running premix. No fuel means no oil on the apex seals. I'm not sure how important that is under a no-load condition, but to be safe, I intentionally left fuel on. I tried lowering the VEs in the high RPM / high vacuum regions, but then it made enourmous exposions in the muffler as there was not enough fuel to light in the combustion chamber, but was enough to collect in the muffler. Then, as rpm's decreased and the combustion chamber began firing again, that first exhaust pulse would ignite the fuel in the exhaust system. BIG booms ensued. I'd be happy to demonstrate by loading an older map!
I'd also love to be shown otherwise, I've got a lot to learn.

I recall being fairly alarmed on occasion by the explosions periodically emanating from Charlie's Blazer in an earlier state of tune.

In Carl's case, my concern would be that the bang would be followed by a series of clatters as exhaust parts deposited themselves in sundry locations around the track. Think of the corner workers, and have mercy!
