Did we get off topic here? There has to be other opinions or ideas on class parity!

Yes, and you might auger-in on the first lap if it was as important as all laps. That is why the Board changed format a few years ago.
Now we encourage people to go nuts on their last lap if they have a good one in the back so to speak. It was explained to me that the reason it was changed was to reduce catches and thereby allow more timed run sessions in a day. It seems we are only run one timing session now though. People used to hope, and sometimes even get, three timed runs in a day.

I don't recollect it ever have been an issue, I don't think there was any sense that people had more incidents on the first lap. People were very well aware that a mistake on the first turn would blow the whole run. It is a little more exciting and a little more difficult, but that is the point. It's good to have to try hard, and it is much more real life if you ever had to swerve or brake suddenly on the street.

Maybe the way for us to evaluate this is to try running one event in the summer at NHMS where we do this as a special event for variety. We could even consider doing 5 laps. In the summer we have long days and this might add variety for the track we visit so often.

The club worked this way for at least 20 years (maybe 30?), so I don't think it's a huge safety issue or anything.
