Everyone is correct about the need for a separate policy to cover the comprehensive side of the trailer (fire, theft, vandalism, etc.). Here is how mine broke out when stolen in Montreal:
No comprehensive on the trailer = $7,000 loss.
My auto policy picked up all of the auto related items in the truck. But they grilled me long and hard about the "racing" wheels and tires!
My home owner policy picked up all the gear in the trailer (called theft away from property).
My new trailer has comprehensive PLUS a rider to cover contents up to $5000.
I dropped USAA after 35 years in order to retrieve my "subscriber savings account" which contained enough of my "hostage" cash to replace the trailer. I also save about $450/ year on a policy with 21st Century (ex-AIG!).
Read all the fine print and shop around!

Re: Trailer insurance question
i just got it on my ins. 2 days ago, $100 extra for the trailer, one more question you need to ask, what happens if the trailer becomes "detached" and make a right while your tow vehicle is going left, if you know what i mean?

Re: Trailer insurance question
My truck insurance agent just told me that as long as I am towing, any liability for the damage the trailer causes is covered byt the truck insurance.Mario Fallas wrote:i just got it on my ins. 2 days ago, $100 extra for the trailer, one more question you need to ask, what happens if the trailer becomes "detached" and make a right while your tow vehicle is going left, if you know what i mean?
