I need some tire advice.
I need some tire advice.
I have a set of some old v710’s mounted… and I have a set of brand new A3S05 hoosiers mounted. The Hoosiers are specifically intended to run autox at Fort Devens. My plan was to take both sets to NHIS and run about 5 minutes of the first session on the Hoosiers to cycle them in for Devens duty, then come in and swap to the v710’s and run the rest of the day. Do you think it will be productive to cycle them or should I just sit on them and run them at Devens un-cycled? I guess I’m asking if NHIS even for a short time period is too damaging for the A compound Hoosiers?

Troy-- I'd keep the Hoosiers just for the auto-x, especialy with a heavy car like the Mustang. One lap at NHIS will get them too warm. I had enough trouble with the "R" series lasting on my Mustang.

From everything I've been told, it's definitely a good idea to heat cycle them before using them in an autocross. However, I agree that NHIS is probably not the best environment for doing so. Like GTF, I've heat-cycled my new 710s on the road. (However, I live in the boonies, and it's pretty easy to do so.)TroyV wrote:Do you think it will be productive to cycle them or should I just sit on them and run them at Devens un-cycled?
I've run the Hooshiers R3s04 and R3S05 s with and and without heat cycling them. They seem to last about the same time. I've even had the Tire Rack heat cycle them, still no better life. A nose heavy Mustang just eats up tires
I'm sure your car weights almost as much as mine , 3720# with 1/2 fuel and no driver. One or two laps at NHIS might be ok with the cold track and all but I'd still use them just at Devens

I drive as hard as anyone and I won the SPA championship on 1 set of 710s in 2005. They are actually great time trial tires because they heat up so fast on a heavy car. I agree that they fall off fairly quickly, but I found them to settle in and be pretty consistent thereafter.TroyV wrote:I guess I don't drive particularly hard.. I get lots of life from V710s..
