Opinions on Toyo RA-1 tires

I'm planning to do some away events this season. In the past a track like Mosport actually was an open track session. I am loooking for some decent tires that will last awhile. I would run the TT on some kuhmo 710's.
What do you guys think? My car is tough on the front tires, easy on the rears, and I can dial in up to 3 degree neg camber.

RA-1's are awesome. Even the 3300+ lb STi pigs take a few events to destroy them.

I love them. I never bought them new, but I was given a set with 1/32nd on them for my 3200lbs 350Z. I killed them because my car is camber challenged (-.8 degree). I got 2 track days and a few autox from them. The soft sidewall is not a problem if you know how to drive it. I will buy another used set this year, I will buy the Nittos new though....

I got a FTD in autox running in BS. My time went from 1:05.9 to 1:02.9 at LRP with just a change of tires. (had Rt-615s) Time went from 1:03.2 to 1:00.8 at Pocono North. I didn't run them at VIR or Summit, I will test them later.

Hi Loou:
I raced with Yokohamas (great for rain) then switched for Kuhmo (very good) then to Toyo. The Toyo is very very good. Better than Kuhmo in terms of overall performance (dry and light rain if the tire is still new).
Also look at NITTO (www.nittotire.com) as they are also (I am quoting someone in this forum) made by Toyo. I have not tried it yet but will put to good use at NHIS.

I found the full tread RA-1s very good for wet weather. Dry, they feel a little squirrly compared to the Victoracer, but that could be me or the car, as I've been sorting a new ride for the past year. I've got 3-4 events on my first set, plenty left. Just bought a second set to replace my used-up Kumhos.

For the price, the best value I've seen

The RA-1 must be great on vintage Mustangs because Tom kicks my ass every time it rains.

lou,
ra1s are probably the best bang for your buck. at full depth they are a fantastic rain tire. They handle, are as forgiving, and give feedback much like a street tire with R-comp grip. most get these shaved to 4/32 for dry running and/or intermediate wets. These tires actually get better as they wear and heat cycle. They will be fastest just before they cord!

With a car that is camber challenged, you have to be more diligent with rotating/flipping them to minimize shoulder wear. or make sure you have good roll control and enough camber.

They arent as fast as hohoos, 710s, etc.. but they will last 10x's longer! I got about 18 track days on 6 shaved ra1s and they still have tread on them! Maybe if I ever learn how to drive they wont last as long.
