Hey T40, what tires are you running?
Hey T40, what tires are you running?
Mainly aimed at NA/NB Miata people, but I’m wondering what tires you all are running. I’m currently at 35 or 36 points and will most likely stay in T30 with NT01s. But, it’s the off season, so it’s fun to consider options . I feel like the cost of NT01s have gone up, but maybe that’s just timing.
I’m limited to 2 sets of wheels and will drive to events on Conti ECS, so I need a tire that will last for practice sessions and TTs.

Re: Hey T40, what tires are you running?
If you need 1 set of track tires to last the season then the Nitto is the answer.
Just make sure you flip them by mid season to even out wear. I do that and have -2.8 / -2.5 camber. Still needs it.
That is the tire most folks ran in T40 too, some use the RR but will cost more and cycle out quicker.
There are faster options but they won’t last you, and some are more expensive to start. This assumes you are doing every event and both days. If less then the faster options might last you, just depends on how much track time you plan on.
Keep an eye out for discount tire coupons / flash sales on the Nitto. That can bring the cost down too.
And I’ve had Nitto sets show up that were older date codes and they were fine in terms of performance.

Re: Hey T40, what tires are you running?
Thanks for that info, Paul. I should clarify that I’ll mostly only be doing 1 day events(until my 3 year old can pit crew), so it sounds like the RR might actually last a full season for my use? Or I go with the gold standard Nittos, I know they are pretty robust and could last a few seasons.paultg wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 11:55 pmIf you need 1 set of track tires to last the season then the Nitto is the answer.

Re: Hey T40, what tires are you running?
You’ll have some options then with doing 1 day only.
The RR I have not run before. They are faster than a Nitto initially but do drop off. When they do I’m not sure if they are similar to a Nitto or still better.
There are other fast -2.5 to 0 point tires. Some are faster than the Nitto.
AO52, Nankang, Falken 660 (not sure if it’s faster). I know tire rules and points for tires are being worked on now too to update and ad the new stuff to the list.
You’ll have a lot of options but can’t go wrong with the Nitto. If you are not going to TT that’s the tire I think you’ll like, and can probably get 2 years out of them if doing 1 day only.

The RR is a terrible tire for the money. The nitto is super consistent by comparison...and I don't believe the RR is any faster except in the first few cycles.

Whoa, glowing review . Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I'll go with old reliable Nittos. Dan D wants me to run R1s, but I don't have space for 3 sets

I think the BFG R1S is discontinued now, only the R1 is available and not sure it’s worth the price.
