Why no in-car instruction at COM?

Post by brucesallen » Mon Aug 10, 2020 11:39 am

It is legal in Massachusetts. Palmer Motorsports Park has in-car instruction at its schools. Many of their instructors are COM instructors including me). I think some other HPDE track day organizations have in-car instruction.

Because some people are convinced there is a pandemic going on..

But Mark, aren't you giving in-car instruction for Palmer?

Yes Bruce. I am not one of the "pandemic" believers. I guess I didn't make that clear.

Being inside a car with open windows, mainly driving at a minimum speed of 35mph... wearing a full coverage helmet with a shield, talking on an electronic communicator to the other occupant of the vehicle, I see NO reason to fear covid or any other virus spread.

Some people do. However, I'm not convinced there is anything to fear other than the usual hazards of life. Maybe it's because I'm just too stoopid...or maybe it's because I had this flu in early February, before it was famous, and so did some friends and family members. I think they are closing the barn door long after the horse is gone.

Maybe it should be left up to the instructors to decide? Those that are comfortable with it can teach the eager students.

Those that are not can pay to attend, and avoid the issue.

I won't be volunteering to clean the bathrooms..though..
